I purchased this on Sunday, March 15. It was a huge mistake for me. Dealing with it has become a monumental hassle. Tell me how to uninstall it and how to get a refund for my purchase, please! Thank you.

    Hi @gm,

I'm sorry you feel that way. If you're positive we can't help troubleshoot then we will do our best to assist with the request you've made.

Uninstalling 1Password is as simple as many Mac applications. Simply drag the application to your Trash. The support files won't interfere with anything else on your Mac but if you want them removed too we can tell you what to do.

The refund depends a lot on where you purchased 1Password. 1Password for Mac is available for purchase not just from our store but also Apple's Mac App Store. Now I did try searching our records for the email address you're using here in the forums but it returned no results. That either means you purchased from us using another email address or you purchased via Apple.

If you purchased from us I'd like to request you email us support+licenses@agilebits.com from the email address you used to purchase 1Password and request a refund there.

If you purchased via Apple then I'm afraid you will have to request a refund from them. We have no control over the Mac App Store and can't initiate a refund on your behalf, in fact Apple don't pass on any information regarding any customers so if you did purchase the MAS version we know literally nothing about you. I've never managed to locate an Apple Knowledgebase article explaining how to do so, the next best thing is this article of which I'm sure there are many like it.

I hope this helps but if you decide to try once more then please let us know what troubles you're having and we'll do our best to help.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I am sure some of the problems are mine and seem too numerous to mention. For example, the interface between my mac and my iPhone seems terrible.
The need to retype the master password on my iPhone constantly. The inability to figure out how to use this when a site has an access code as well as a password. The inability to easily get account info into your system because it won't capture the newly created password when I am trying to set up a log in, etc etc, and I am just not up to spending the huge amounts of my time it will take to make this work. Thank you for your info about Apple Store. I thought that was the correct way to proceed. I guess another problem.

    Hi @gm,

I'm so sorry to hear that you're feeling so frustrated with 1Password. It sounds like you're settled on getting a refund, but I would like to hear a bit more detail on this:

the interface between my mac and my iPhone seems terrible.

Are you having trouble keeping your devices in sync?

The need to retype the master password on my iPhone constantly.

Have you had a peek at the Security settings in 1Password 5 for iOS? You can find these by tapping on the 'Settings' gear in the bottom menu bar and selecting 'Security'. You can change 1Password's lock settings there, and enable TouchID (or a PIN if you do not have a TouchID enabled device). We've got a guide to walk you through the various security settings in our User Guide.

The inability to figure out how to use this when a site has an access code as well as a password.

Generally, we recommend installing the 1Password browser extensions and letting 1Password save all your Logins for you directly via your browser of choice. This works particularly well for sites that include more than just the standard username and password. Here's how the workflow would go:

    • Head on over to the website you wish to log into
    • Fill in your username, password, and access code
    • When you click on the 'log in' button, 1Password will pop up and offer to save the log in details for you
    • Easy as pie!

Of course, some websites are notoriously tricky. If you notice any sites that don't play nice with 1Password, let us know the URLs and we'd be happy to do some testing here.

The inability to easily get account info into your system because it won't capture the newly created password when I am trying to set up a log in

Our filling gurus are constantly working to improve 1Password's filling, and its ability to notice when you are creating a brand new account. If there's a particular site that didn't work for you, we'd love to know the URL so we can improve 1Password's behaviour here.

With respect to passwords created by 1Password, we've got a couple of failsafes in place in case you have just created a brand new account with a brand new long and complicated generated password and 1Password doesn't helpfully offer to save the details for you:

    • Once you click 'Fill' on the password generator, that new password is stored in the 'Passwords' category in 1Password
    • That new password is also copied to the clipboard (you can confirm that this option is enabled by clicking on the arrow beside the 'Fill' button in the generator - 'Copy to Clipboard Before Filling' should be checked.) If 1Password doesn't prompt you to save, you can simply open the main app, create a new entry and paste that password where it belongs.

At the end of the day, if you have decided that 1Password is just not for you, that's fine. I do want to thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts here. Your feedback as a new user gives us a great perspective into where we can improve 1Password and make it more user-friendly for everyone.

Of course, if you'd like to give us another chance ... we're here to answer any questions you might have! :)
