Trouble creating passwords for my bank

I hate security questions, and try to treat the answers as passwords. But I have trouble with my bank. Firstly, they have FIVE security questions, and I time out before I can finish. If I go back, I have to start all over again, and pick all new security questions.

Secondly, they have unique rules - only certain special characters and not all. When I go into 1Password iOS (on iPad), I cannot edit generated passwords, and I can't edit my password formula not to use "%", for instance.

@pellucid: Amen! I do the same thing. :)

Unfortunately in most cases, the security questions/answers can be problematic for 1Password, since they will ask you for different ones randomly. 1Password just doesn't have the (artificial) intelligence (yet?) to be able to respond in kind.

So what I tend to do is create a 'normal' Login item with the standard username and password, and then store the 'security question' info in the 'Notes' section the my Login item for reference. On occasion I'll come across a site with a more user-friendly form for security questions, but those are few and far between, I'm afraid.

If you like, sharing the URL for the bank in question might allow us to test this (provided an AgileBitsian on staff happens to have an account with that particular bank -- they aren't fond of 'dummy' logins), but it's entirely up to you.

While it won't work with all sites, our 'multipage logins' guide has some great tips that may help in your case...or prove useful to you in the future. I hope this helps! :)

I do the same thing only instead of entering in the notes I click the add new section and select text and enter the question and answer. After that is setup when your on the website and it ask you for an answer to a question you can click the key symbol then click the i next to your log in and it will take you to your question and answer text. Then just copy and paste into the website field.

@kunder: Precisely! This is much easier now that 1Browser makes it easy to access login items while surfing. :)
