Upgrade to 5

What exactly have you tried?
Double-clicking the license file should work. If it doesn't, opening version 5 and going to License ... in the 1Password 5 menu should give an option to Add License.
If neither of those work, someone from Agile will have to advise you. But maybe you were expecting the license to work automatically; it doesn't, you have to add it by one of the methods above.

Have you downloaded a copy of 1Password 5 and installed it on your Mac? Just checking, because I can't tell what it means when you say you have license for 5 but it will not automatically upgrade. Also, could you let us know where you purchased your upgrade license? Was it from the Mac App Store or the AgileBits web store?
It shouldn't be too hard to get this figured out, but I think we need this information to know exactly where you are in the upgrade process.

Hi @RonM,
I see from our records that you do indeed have a 1Password 5 licence that you've purchased directly from us. That means that you will want to download 1Password 5 from our AgileBits Download page. What 1Password 3 is doing is it's checking for updates to just the version 3 branch and reporting you're up-to-date. I can understand that given we made 1Password 4 a paid upgrade and maybe people didn't want to be nagged over an update they were unwilling to purchase for whatever reason.
So after you've downloaded 1Password 5 it will see you're a user of 1Password 3 and import the vault. You can then add your licence using our How do I add my license to 1Password? page.
If you have any issues please do let us know
