No iCloud drive option in Sync

Sync does not show the iCloud drive option for syncing. I have it working ok on my other Mac. The only options I am offered are for 'Dropbox' and 'folder'. As far as I can tell, iCloud is activated on the Mac in question.

Please consider making 'How To' videos. I'm having a difficult time with setting up syncing on my Mac. I've checked everywhere I can think of and can't find a solution. Am suspecting it may be due to the fact my Mac is running a beta versioin of Mac OS X (10.3.3). This is frustrating because I came over from Dashlane after reading so many positive reviews, and because I can open 1PW with Touch on the iPhone. thank you....

Just one thought. If you are running a beta, you must be using the version direct from Agile. This allows Dropbox syncing, but not iCloud sync. You have to get from Apple's App Store should you want iCloud sync, and the App Store does not have beta or trial versions.

Not beta of 1P, beta of OSX (from Apple).

My misreading. I should have been more careful.

But the basic point still holds, that if you were expecting iCloud sync that would require you to use the App Store version of 1PW. Could that be your issue.

If not, where are you finding things difficult? It should be fairly straightforward. Agile staff, or regular users like myself, need more info in order to help.

You are right about videos. I understand that the Agile people are in process of creating videos, but I don't know how long itw be until they have a good selection of them.

    Hi @BRUCETG,

I can't directly help with videos but I and the others that keep a watchful eye on the forums will do our best to help you get syncing working.

Those are our Dropbox syncing guides for both Mac and iOS. If you can let us know at what point what you're seeing or experiencing diverges from what the guides say you should see that will hopefully give us a good idea of where you are and what might be wrong. Once we have a better idea we should be in a position to help

So in the Basic Troubleshooting guide on Agile's site I read: "Mac: Ensure you are using the Mac App Store version of 1Password. Then go to the App Store and check the Updates section. If you downloaded 1Password directly from our website, please note that you will not be able to sync with iCloud." This seems ridiculous to require another purchase of this app to fix what should be something that just works.

I really don't think I should be required to purchase this app again for something so fundamental. It costs $34.99 from the app store. If it were $5.00 or so I would be ok with that. Thanks littlebobbytales for the info.

The AgileBits store does make it clear, when you're purchasing 1P, that you need the Mac App Store version if you want to use iCloud sync. (That requirement follows from changes made by Apple on the launch of OS X Yosemite, of course.) If you bought 1P from the AgileBits store within the past 30 days you can ask for a refund to enable you to buy the Mac App Store version.

    Hi @BRUCETG,

I noticed you opened two different threads for the same issue, so I merged them into the same discussion to avoid confusion.

I'm sorry for any confusion here, but hopefully I can help to clear things up. First, which version of 1Password do you currently have installed on your Mac? It sounds like you're trying to get set up 1Password on Yosemite, so you may have recently downloaded 1Password 5 (the latest) from our website. That version can sync with 1Password 5 for iOS via Dropbox or Wi-Fi sync.

iCloud sync is only available in the Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac. That's because it uses Apple's new CloudKit technology, which can only be used by apps sold through the Mac App Store. We'd absolutely love to be able to include that in the web store version of 1Password as well, but unfortunately that's not currently possible. We have more information about that in our Web store and iCloud FAQ.

Have you purchased a license for 1Password 5 for Mac from our web store? If so, and if you made that purchase within the last 30 days, we can certainly refund that, and you can buy the Mac App Store version instead.

If you haven't purchased a license for 1Password 5 for Mac, you might be using it as a free trial. I searched in our system for the email address associated with your forum account, and it looks like you bought a license for 1Password 3 for Mac back in 2011 (I had that license info resent to your email), but I didn't find a license for you for 1Password 4 or 5 for Mac (which would be a paid upgrade from version 3). If you used a different email address to purchase an upgrade to a license for 1Password 4/5 for Mac, you can have your license resent to you from the "I've lost my license" section of this site.

If you never upgraded your license to version 4/5, then you have a couple options:

    • You can upgrade your 1Password 3 for Mac license to a 1Password 5 for Mac license on our website. We're able to give you an upgrade discount this way, but you wouldn't have the iCloud sync feature. You can enter your version 3 license code on this site to see your upgrade discount & options.

    OR:

    • If you want to use iCloud sync, you'll need to purchase 1Password 5 from the Mac App Store at the current sale price. Unfortunately Apple doesn't give us the ability to do upgrade pricing on the Mac App Store, so it would cost a bit more, but you would have the iCloud sync feature.

Alternately, you can go back to using 1Password 3 for Mac. It's still a great product, even if it doesn't have all the latest bells and whistles. If you need to re-download version 3, you can find a link here.

Now, if I'm incorrect about the version you have installed on Yosemite, if you upgraded to a version 5 license, etc, please let us know. Otherwise, I hope this helps clear up some confusion. But if you have more questions about any of that, we're here for you!

Hi there, I've just purchased 1Password directly through the web site and did not realize until trying to setup the app that I needed to purchase via Apple to sync with iCloud. Can someone please help me correct this? I'm extremely unhappy to spend so much time with this only to find this now.

  • danco

I can understand your unhappiness. Someone from Agile (I'm just a user) will be along to tell you details about getting a refund and then purchasing through the Apple App Store, if that's what you want.

However, it is clearly stated on Agile's purchasing page that you need the version from the App Store if you want iCloud sync. Evidently many people miss this notice, though it is not hidden. It might help Agile and also other users if you had the energy to say how you would expect them to provide the information in a way that is harder to miss.

Thanks danco, yes - all I want is to use it easily with all my devices....so a refund/repurchase will sort it all out. How did I miss it? I think with all the various notes, it just got lost/didn't sink in until I was working with it. Just as I have not yet fully understood how to transition existing accounts to 1Password until I get to play with the app.

ok, I purchased and installed 1P from the Apple store and things are working well between my iphone and laptop. However, I went to download it to my other iMac and am not getting the same install experience; ie, it seems to be stuck on the prior 1P environment (I did delete 1P from the Applications folder prior to reinstalling). Ideas? thanks.

@andyew - To request a refund for your purchase from the AgileBits web store, if it was within the last 30 days, send your request to support+licenses@agilebits.com. Include the email address you used for your purchase, the name and address you gave, and the date you bought. Add a link to this thread.

You'll receive an automated reply with a support ticket number. You'll speed things up if you return here and post that ticket number.

Thank you hawkmoth. I did just purchase 1Password this afternoon. The ticket number is EEW-52374-519.

  • Hi @andyew - Thanks for letting us know the Ticket number! You should see a response from Laura directly :)

Yes, thank you! All sorted out and I've been refunded and purchased through the app store. I think the reason this happened is I simply was focused on purchasing the app and just searched for the "purchase" button on the site as quickly as possible. I did see the reference to the app store, but didn't think much of selecting one over the other.

  • Glad to hear it's sorted out now, @andyew! Please let us know if you have any other questions. We're always happy to help!
