Fresh OS X install
I am planning to wipe my drive to do a fresh OS X install. I have completed a full backup of my drive using Time Machine. What would be the proper way to get 1Password restored to my Mac. I will not be restoring the entire contents of my drive. I purchased 1Password through the Agilebits website.
Currently using:
Macbook Pro Mid 2012 15" non-retina
OS X Yosemite 10.10.2
1Password 5 Version 5.1
1Password 5 gets synced from Dropbox

I'm not sure I have the exact path language down, but my backups are in Mactintosh HD/Users/myusername/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/Backups. If I were doing this, I'd pick the most recent backup file from there and restore it. That can be initiated from the File > Restore menu.

Hi @spaulding,
The location of your 1Password backups will be different depending on if you're using the web store or the Mac App Store version of 1Password. But either way, you can easily find your backups if you open 1Password, go to 1Password > Preferences in the menu bar, select the Backup tab, and click the Show Files button. That will open the folder containing your 1Password backups.
You should make sure your backups are in Time Machine before wiping your drive. Here are the exact locations for your 1Password backups:
If you're using the Mac App Store version:
~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Library/Backups/
If you're using the web store version:
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/Backups/
It might also be a good idea to save one or more of your most recent backups somewhere else in addition to Time Machine - you can never have too many backups of your data! ;) If you have more questions, just let us know.

I would restore the whole folder .../ApplicationSupport/1Password4. Note that it is named 1Password4 even though you are using 1Password5. Also your personal Library folder is hidden by default. Press the Option key and use the Go menu in Finder to get to Library, and then enter Time Machine to get the exact folder. That takes care of restoring the data. You will have to be careful with your wipe and re-install to make sure that the Time Machine backup doesn't get wiped. In fact, if you have a spare drive then have two copies, perhaps using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to make a clone of what you have.
As for the 1PW program, it is best to reinstall it rather than trying to restore from Time Machine or another copy. Restoring may well work, but with some programs hidden helpers would not get copied back but would be created in a reinstall.

Awesome, thank you hawkmoth, Drew_AG and Danco. I will be redundant with this 1Password backup before the wipe. 1Password has sure been great!

@spaulding: Yes! That's what I love to hear. Nothing worse than losing data! It sounds like you have all the information you need and can proceed once those backups are in (a very safe) place.
And -- aw shucks -- you're pretty great yourself! :chuffed:
