Import Keychain from PPC Mac to Intel Mac?

I purchased a 1Password license many years ago. My old PPC iMac bit the dust and I'm starting over on a Macbook Pro /Yosemite. I'm trying to import my old Keychain into the latest 1password and it won't acknowledge it. It also won't accept my license. Am I locked out of all my stored passwords forever? please help?

The license won't be accepted, as you will have to buy an upgrade. But you should still be able to use the current version in trial mode.

I suspect the problem is that you are using a very old version, and the keychain format has changed since then. You might have to go via several versions to get a current one. That is, you may well have been using 1PW2. 1PW3 still works in Yosemite, and you might have to import from 1PW2 to 1PW3 and then import again from 1PW3 to 1PW4/5. Agile people will be along to give you advice.

@cobelleen: Indeed! danco is on the right track there with that advice. My concern is that we need to know what we're starting with exactly to make sure we get you on the right path to migrate your data to the current version of 1Password.

First thing's first: I wasn't able to find a record of a 1Password license under the email address you have registered here. I wanted to see if I could determine what version you might have been using previously. If you happen to have your license information still, it may be for 1Password version 2 or 3. 3 should be relatively easy, since it at least runs on Intel hardware; for 2 we might need to get creative. Let me know what you find -- but please don't post the actual license information on a public forum! :)

The good news is that 1Password 5 (which, of course, also entitles you to use any previous version) is currently on sale (limited time); but you may be able to get upgrade pricing as well, depending on your existing license.

Anyway, please let me know what you find. We will get this sorted out for you! :)

Thank you for your help! I am just now checking back here. I did re-establish all new passwords for most of my important logins in the past week, into the latest demo version of 1Password. I entered my license number into the upgrade pricing link that you pasted above and it says I can purchase for half price. That works for me! No need to import the old keychain anymore. Thank you both for your prompt attention.

    Hi @cobelleen,

Well it sounds like you're up and running again with 1Password. You'll find it's a bit different compared to the previous version you were running if it was a Power PC Mac so if you have any questions please do ask.

For browsing you might find out 1Password 5 guide handy but we actively monitor these forums and make sure to read every thread, even if is just to say that the answer you got from a loyal fan of 1Password is what we'd have said too. Enjoy 1Password 5
