how can i reset an old Mac version (before 38.22) master password?
I purchased and used an old Mac version (before 3.8.22), should be 2.9xx on OSX 10.6.8 and have backup, exported file, even the software file itself. I delete the 1Password application file carelessly. I copy the file back to Application folder again and setup initially. During setup process, never ask me for setup master password, only request my mac keychain for safari menu bar setup. After that, the 1password can re-open without request for entering any password, I imported my backup file, and change in preference to lock with master password instead of the Mac key chain one. Then, I cannot open it anymore, even with all my all used password before or mac login ID in keychain.
I have try your support page to reset it to initially setup status, or those methods to reset the master password, or delete the application file again, but it still request me to enter the master password
Is it possible to reset the master password? I don't mind the details inside since I have backup and export file.
If I wish to purchase your posted old version 3.8.22 instead of it, where can I pay upgrade price to this version (not 4 or 5, since I still using OSX 10.6.8)
thx

Hi @bricksto,
Pre 1Password 3? I may have to do some asking around to see who remembers that version. I wasn't aware of 1Password until version 3 and so never used the incarnations prior to that version.
You won't be able to reset a Master Password I'm afraid, I'm confident of that part. If we could either reset on your behalf or supply instructions on how to reset a Master Password the security behind the application may as well be non-existant. Like the versions that followed it would be a case of completely wiping the vault and starting over which should be fine if you have an exported copy of your vault. Now the tricky part is how we do this.
As for upgrading. Again, my lack of knowledge on 1Password 2 means I'm not as confident as if you'd been asking about 3 to 4/5. If you have a licence key though you can try asking for an upgrade price in our store. Now it would state that you're purchasing a 1Password 5 licence but that licence file works for both 1Password 4/5 and we also supply a licence key for 1Password 3. So you could run 1Password 3 now and if you were to replace the Mac you could then run 1Password 4 or 5 at no extra cost as you're already licensed. I believe the upgrade licence is $24.99 at the moment but you would want to confirm and check that yourself.
I'll ask about 1Password 2 on the Monday once more of the team are around.

Thanks for your reply, thank you very much.
That means I paid for 5 now, I will obtain another licence key for the version 3.8.22 on OSX 10.6.8? Thx0 -
Hi @bricksto,
With the assistance of @thightower I've been able to confirm that a 1Password 2 licence means you are eligible for an upgrade price just as I knew 1Password 3 users were.
As for your query, that is correct, a licence purchased now will cover you for 1Password 3-5 with a licence in the correct format for both. Obviously we recommend running the latest version which as you are already aware is 1Password 3 in your case. Once again though, by running 1Password 3 now you don't surrender access to 1Password 4/5 should you upgrade your Mac at some point in the future.
If we can be of any more assistance please do ask.
