retrieve logins and passwords from time machine
Hello. I need major help. This past weekend, I had to wipe the HD on my Macbook Pro. I did have Time Machine backups at the time. Is there any way to retrieve my old logins and passwords from Time Machine? Please help. I'm trying to recover more than two years of work. Please help! :-)

It would be really helpful to know what version of 1P you were using. On the assumption it might have been 1P4 or 1P5 take a look at this knowledge base article about location of the relevant files and see if that helps.

Hi Stephen. Thanks so much for your response. I have 1Password 5. Whether or not I can retrieve my previous info from my Macbook Pro or Time Machine is another matter. I would need step by step directions. :-)

Hi @medialawprof,
1Password for Mac automatically makes backups, so as long as Time Machine has a copy of your 1Password backups, it should be pretty easy to restore that data. The exact location of your 1Password backup files will be different depending on whether you're using the web store or Mac App Store version of 1Password 5:
Mac App Store version:
~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Library/Backups/
Web store version:
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/Backups/
(Keep in mind the '~' indicates your Mac user folder.)
With that in mind, you can follow these steps to find your 1Password backups in Time Machine:
- In the Finder, click the Go menu and select Go to Folder
- Copy and paste (or type) the following line into the Go to the folder field:
~/Library/
- Click the Go button (this should open your username/Library folder)
- Now click the Time Machine icon in your Mac's menu bar, and select Enter Time Machine
- Using the up/down arrows next to the open window in Time Machine, go back to the date that should have the backups
- In the Library folder (which should be open), navigate to one of the following locations:
If you were using the Mac App Store version of 1Password:
/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Library/Backups/
If you were using the web store version of 1Password:
/Application Support/1Password 4/Backups/
You can restore one or more of those backup files, or the entire Backups folder. If you haven't setup 1Password again on your Mac yet, you'll have the option to restore from a backup when you open it and go through the brief setup procedure. If you already set up 1Password, you can open the 1Password app and go to File > Restore (if you don't see the backup files you restored from Time Machine, click Find Backup, then select a backup file).
Please let us know how it goes. Thanks!

Drew_AG, you are the BEST!!! It worked!!! 95 log-ins now restored!!! Words cannot express my appreciation!!!
Now, if I could only restore bookmarks for Firefox and Chrome....lol.

Although this likely isn't the right place to discuss it, I'm sure you can retrieve those bookmarks from backups, @medialawprof.

Hi @medialawprof,
It's a bit of a club-like solution but restoring the following would restore your bookmarks as it's restoring the entire browser profile.
- Firefox
~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
- Chrome
~/Library/Application Support/Google/
Hope that helps.
