How to generate a new password in ios

I think I must be missing something quite obvious on iOS. 1password has a great password generator in OS X however I can't find one in iOS.
Here's the scenario, I want to open a new online account. I fill in my details, create a user name and I then have to enter a password. I can't find a password generator in the 1password vault, 1password browser or safari.
How do I generate a new password ?

On the assumption you're using 1P5 for iOS take a look at this knowledge base article, which you should find very helpful.

Thanks for the quick reply, I had read the article. It works perfectly for changing the password for an account that has already been created and already exists in 1password but that is not the problem
How do I create a new password when signing up for a new service that does not already exist in my 1password vault ?
Ie, where is the standalone password generator in iOS ?

When you create a new login and come to the Password field do you not see, in blue letters, Generate New Password? It's certainly present when I try to create a new login item.

There is no such option appearing in either the 1password browser or safari. The site I am registering with is www.seedrs.com/join

  • Hi @p1inorbit,

It isn't in the browser, but rather in the main app, where you add logins:

    Thanks!

I think we may have crossed wires, what I am expecting to happen is something similar to the way the application works in OS X. Ie, I fill in the registration page, click the 1password button in the browser, and then generate a password.
The 1password app then auto saves the login details. This does not appear to be an option on my iPad

  • Unfortunately the iOS app does not have that functionality in-browser yet.

I too have had this issue, just yesterday. It usually involves an App not in the Categorizes list in the current1PW version 5.X like Citibank, Hilton Honors, Chase, DirecTV, American Airlines, Costco, Groupon, Amazon, etc.

My process is you either stop creating your new login for the App then create a dummy (get to fill in the details later since your working in an unsupported App) login then copy the new generated password and then go back to the App and past it into the appropriate password space in the App. >_<

To me this is one of the most inconvenient non-functions of the 1PW 5.X. I'm currently on 1PW 5.2 I've suggested this when I was using 1PW 4.4. Also another draw back is that when using an App instead of the mobile website within 1PW5 that many of the companies using Apps have really difficult to read e-mobile websites that aren't fully functional, 1PW5 should see the login info and create a new login. I know that is technically difficult but these two functions would make 1PW way better. :)

  • Hi @lov2krz,

Thanks for the feedback! We don't disagree. :) There isn't much we can do about apps that don't support 1Password yet other than encourage them to include 1Password support in future updates. We are prevented (in code) from integrating with an app unless they explicitly add support. Saving and generating passwords within the browser is something we can likely do though, and is something our developers are looking into. :)

    Thanks.
