My 1Password on my iPhone6 is under another person's iTunes account. I want to change it to my own.

My 1Password on my iPhone6 is under another person's iTunes account. I want to change it to my own iTunes's account while still restore the content in the existing 1Password. How shall I do?

Do you have the Pro features, which are an in-app purchase?

If not, as 1PW for iOS is free for basic use, there should be a way of deleting the current 1PW and installing a copy under your ID.

DO NOT do this until Agile people give you precise details. I think that deleting an iOS program deletes all the data (this does not happen on a Mac) and you need to be sure the data is stored somewhere that it can be restored from before deleting.

Changing the Apple ID a program is registered under would have to be done by Apple, and they are likely to be difficult on this. Agile can't arrange it.

  • Hi @DickieYan,

I don't believe Apple will allow purchases to be transferred between Apple IDs, but you're welcome to check with them:

    https://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/

If you simply wish to move the free app over, as danco said, make a backup before uninstalling the current app:

    https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-ios/5/en/topic/itunes-backups

Then simply install again after logging into the correct Apple ID.

    Thanks!

    Ben

ALL purchases are permanently associated with whatever Apple ID was used to originally obtain them.  Apps can not be updated without knowledge of that ID and, more importantly, its password.  Apple IDs can not be merged and purchases can not be transferred from one ID to another.

  • Thanks for chiming in here, @Plato!

Apple IDs can not be merged

This is a particularly frustrating aspect of Apple's ecosystem, given their penchant from prompting a user to set up a new Apple ID whenever a new device arrives. It's maddening to find that you now have apps or media purchased under more than one Apple ID, when you weren't aware you had more than one in the first place. And they aren't helpful when a user discovers this and wants to get everything back in one basket. Even Apple suport folks who have helped me get straightened out have been sympathetic to the confusion this causes. I don't know if they said so exactly (probably not), but I clearly understood that they'd prefer to be able to merge duplicate Apple IDs too.

    (My rant for today.)

I can envision the merge capability creating big problems for those that merge without first removing the "Find my..." function from their devices.

    Hi @Plato,

Oh, I'm certain there are all sorts of eventualities that would need to be considered if Apple ever decided to allow this ... however I'm with Hawkmoth - I really really wish that they would! ;)

the whole merging accounts has been an issue for years. You think they would make it so you can do this.

  • Agreed. :) But I'm sure there are reasons they haven't yet as well.
