Degrading the user experience for advancing the cause

For some reason I am unable to comment on posts related to auto submit and auto fill in these forums using 1browser, so I'm posting this comment here in hopes that the developers will think about their choices from a development strategy perspective.

It is never okay to degrade the user's experience related to the primary function of an application in order to advance that application. Your decision to remove functionality in order to install a new brain for your application for all of the general population of your users is a significant strategic error, especially for the price point that you put this product onto the market.

Before you install your new brain, you should build the functionality in and get it to where it currently is in the current version of the product using beta testers willing to sacrifice functionality in your app.

Why would you think it is okay to fundamentally alter the user experience within your app? I used to evangelize your app to a lot of other users, but will be less willing to do so if this will be your user experience strategy going forward.

    Hi @bradnickel,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us. I fully appreciate how this looks on the outside. We wish it was possible to maintain the auto-submit functionality while still improving auto-fill. Unfortunately, it isn't something we can do on iOS yet.

On Mac and Windows, we are able to simulate pressing the Return key on the keyboard. The browser extension places focus in the password field, the app presses Return, and the form submits (just like if you pressed Return yourself).

On iOS, we simply don’t have this ability. Previously, we were relying on a JavaScript-based approach to auto-submit. Unfortunately, this old method didn’t work on many websites, and even completely broke logging in on others.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but hopefully this helps explain a bit more why auto-submit is not present at the moment. We definitely want to revisit bringing auto-submit back to iOS in the future if it becomes possible. We would love to find a better solution.
