1Password version 4 License

On a mid 2007 iMac OS X 10.9.5 I was running 1Password 3.8.21. I tried to upgrade to the lasted version of 1Password (v.5) but since it requires Yosemite and Im still running Mavericks I was directed to v.4. I downloaded v.4 (I clicked on trial version accidentally). After installing v.4 I tried to purchase an upgrade license by going to 1Password4>license. When I click on Purchase I am taken to the Agile Online Store which only gives me the option to purchase v.5 for Mac or v.4 for Windows. Is it possible to still purchase v.4 for Mac since it is still available for download and if so how do I go about doing that. If not, can I safely remove v.4 and revert to v.3.8.21 which I have not removed yet and what is the best and safest way to do so. Thanks in advance.

What you do in fact is to buy a licence for version 5—which will automatically licence version 4. Further, as and when you're ready to upgrade to version 5 that licence will work with version 5 so you won't have to pay anything else.

Okay great. Now that I have v.4 up and running can I safely remove v.3.8.21?

    Hi @chatton,

Yep! 1Password 3 had some supporting files that are not needed by 1Password 4, so to clean those out, please follow these steps (without using any uninstaller programs!):

    • In Finder, click the Go menu, then Go to Folder... and paste in the following path (including the ~ tilde):
      ~/Library/LaunchAgents
If you see ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist there, drag it to the trash.

    • Go > Go to Folder and paste in the following path (including the ~ tilde):
      ~/Library/Application Support/1Password
If you see a folder there named Agent, drag it to the trash.

    • 1Password 4.app should be the only copy of 1Password that you keep on your computer, and it should be in the Applications folder. If you have one called "1Password.app" (version 3), drag that to the trash also.

    • Empty the Trash.

    • Restart your Mac.

    • Launch 1Password 4 from the Applications folder. Good to go!

We're here to help if you need anything else. Otherwise, enjoy 1Password 4! :)
