Synch
As a newcomer i am trying to set up for a synch between my iMac (late 2013), iPhone 6 and my iPad air.
I have OSX V10.10.2 and IOS8.2 on the devices. 1P is version Version 5.1 (510027) from the Mac store.
I have iCloud turned on all 3 items and they all use the same Apple ID.
Reading your user guides they do not match the screens I have here and as a first timer that is extremely annoying. I really like this program but your documentation needs to be able to help all knowledge levels.
On my Mac when I have selected synch with iCloud I can see no "start synching button", there is also a message saying that it was synched some minutes before!
On the IOS devices I select synch with iCloud from the settings menu, a message comes up that there is existing data in the cloud and it will be merged with my vault, I select merge, then asked to unlock 1Password data. I enter my master password and after trying four times I am receiving an incorrect password message, I know the password is correct as I have it written down in front of me and I use it to log into the devices.
One question on the best method of entering data, is it best to enter all the data into one platform and then synch or is it ok to have entered some data into the separate devices?
Thanks in anticipation.

As an addition to the above, I have managed to do a cloud synch from the mac but am totally unable to carry out the synch with my phone as it will not accept the master password.
I also tried to canary out a WiFi synch, set the Mac up, got the secret code, set up the phone and entered the code but once again it refused point blank to accept the master password.
As I do not have much data entered would it make sense to delete the data, remove 1P from my phone, reset with a small master password on the Mac just to test. I could the reinstall on the phone, enter one bit of data and try to synch.
I look forward to someone helping.0 -
Hi @PortugalGS ,
I am sorry to hear that you're having trouble with 1Password, and I'll do my best to help get you up and running again!
Reading your user guides they do not match the screens I have here and as a first timer that is extremely annoying.
Could you tell me where you're finding our User Guides? I just looked at 'guides.agilebits.com', and our iCloud sync guide has been updated with the latest screenshots, so the images in the guide should match up with what you see on your screen.

If you're seeing a message that sync occurred a few minutes ago, then it sounds like your Mac is all set up with iCloud sync. Is this similar to what you see?
If so, then you're set! If you see a different option in the 'sync vault with' dropdown menu, you'll have to disable sync and then select iCloud. Only one sync solution may be enabled at a time.
On the IOS devices I select synch with iCloud from the settings menu, a message comes up that there is existing data in the cloud and it will be merged with my vault, I select merge, then asked to unlock 1Password data. Just to confirm - you're entering the Master Password for your 1Password data here, correct? If it is working on your Mac but not on your iOS devices, have you previously used 1Password and stored data in iCloud? I'm wondering if the iOS devices might be finding some out-dated data with a different Master Password.

How you enter data is completely up to you, but one of the great things about the desktop version of 1Password is that the browser extensions can essentially do all of the hard work for you. When you visit a site that you already have a username and password for, simply fill them in as you normally would. Once you hit the 'sign in' button, 1Password will prompt you to save a new item in your database. This makes it easy to build your database without having to type your details into the 1Password app.
I also tried to canary out a WiFi synch, set the Mac up, got the secret code, set up the phone and entered the code but once again it refused point blank to accept the master password.
Are you using any special or accented characters in your password? Generally your password should only contain ASCII characters.

Thanks for the reply.
To answer your questions in order;
The confusing screens I saw are in the knowledge base guides, in future I will stick to the user guides.
Yes that is what I see on the Mac so it appears I am ok but my problem is with the IOS. Am I correct in assuming that if I synch the Mac to the cloud then get the IOS to synch to the cloud I will transfer data from the Mac to the IOS. Forgive me if I have got it wrong but this bit is confusing me!!
I have reinstalled the iOS device a second time but used the same password, the only special characters I use are space, an apostrophe and a tilde the rest are normal characters upper and lower and numbers.
If I understand your explanation then it is easier to enter the data on my Mac version and the synch process will transfer the data to my IOS device?? If the cloud is working I will forget the wifi synch.
Is there any milage in doing a test run just using a basic very simple password, I don´t want to muck anything else up but I do need to crack this initial phase.
Thanks for your help and I will wait to hear from you.0 -
Update on present problem.
My mac is now synching correctly but I still have an IOS issue.
I follow the instructions in the IOS user guide to set up cloud synch:-
From settings, select synch, start synching, sync with cloud, I get a message that 1 password found existing data in cloud - It will be merged with your vault.
Two options cancel/merge. I select merge and am asked to input password data. This is the where my master password is not accepted (I have it written down on a piece of paper in front of me and have tried three times without success).
This section on merging is not shown in the user guide.
This section is the last part of the jigsaw for me so I do want to fix it asap!!
I am really impressed with 1P and the support I have received from this forum so thank you all very much.0 -
Hi @PortugalGS,
There's two things I think we should check/try here:
- Can you double check that both the Mac and the iOS devices are both signed into the same iCloud account? This could cause what you're experiencing.
- From the Mac, can you go into Preferences > Security, and click Change Master Password. You can make all 3 values the same, basically tell it you're changing it from the password you know, to the password you know. Doing this should force it to push the password change up to iCloud/CloudKit. Once that's done, try again from the iOS device and let's see if we have more luck.
I hope this helps. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Rick
Point 1 is complete both are on the iCloud account with the same Apple ID.
Point 2, when I click change master password what 3 values are you referring to. There is only room to enter old. enter new, tip and comment box.
I hope I have not missed something, perhaps if I have can you send me a diagram? Thanks.

Hi @PortugalGS,
Sorry about the ambiguity there. I meant that for Current Password you should use your current password (obviously), but for New Password and Verify, you should also use your current password. For password hint you can use the same hint as you currently have as well. Doing this changes nothing locally, but should push new information up to iCloud.

Hi Rick
I have done that and received a password change message.
Should I now be able to synch on my iPhone?
Just tried to synch and situation exactly the same.0 -
Hi @PortugalGS,
Yes, ideally at this point you could sync properly after giving the password to the iOS app when it asks. I think we're at the point where I'm going to need a Diagnostics Report. Could you follow the steps on this page to get us the report? Email it to support+forums@agilebits.com. Include in the email a link to this thread so that we know where this is coming from. You should receive back a ticket ID from our ticketing system. Feel free to post that here in the forum so that we can jump between the two systems easily.
I'm sorry that this is nowhere near as smooth as it should be.

Hi Rick
Just sent the IOS diagnostic report at 1507. Glad you found no problems with the first one as the Mac is working fine (fingers crossed). I still have to install on my iPad but I am holding off until the phone works correctly.0 -
Hi Rick
Have you received the report?0 -
Got it now. :) I've just merged it into your existing discussion so that it can be reviewed. Thanks!
