Enhancement request: show field type selector for new field

Hi, this is one really minor thing but it turns out to be huge when you are editing a lot of stuff.

I like the field type selector a lot, which gives me access to text, URL, email, address, date, month/year, password, and now even OTP (that's awesome!). However, when we create a new field, it wouldn't show up until we move to the next field (more precisely, when the field is created by switching focus). (See annotated screenshots at the bottom.)

The more logical approach, though, is to display the field type selector when a new field is highlighted. This way we won't need to pointlessly move around just to get the field type selectors for new fields; after all, there are certain fields that we can't even get started filling in without the selector, e.g., a password (those of us who honor security need the strong password generator), or a TOTP (need to scan the QR code).

    Hi @KevinSayHi ,

    Thanks so much for bringing this to our attention! You're certainly not the first one to notice this ... and I'm with you, it would be quite handy to have that selector before you move past the field. I've added your comments to the existing improvement request in our internal tracker. :)

    @Megan Thanks!

  • @KevinSayHi : Adding all of those custom field types helped illuminate the fact that we have to do better here. Hopefully an upcoming release can take care of this.
