Hi @justinleibow ,
I'm so sorry to hear that you're having trouble here! I'd be more than happy to help you get sorted out. However, I'm going to need a bit more detail on just what you're seeing:
- Are you unable to unlock 1Password?
- Does 1Password tell you that your master password is incorrect?
- Are you unable to open the app? If so, do you get an error message?
Please provide as much detail as possible so that we can get this straightened out quickly!

Hello! Ever since this morning (I did a MAC OS update last night) I cannot open the app. Attached is the message I get. I believe I am running 5.3 already, so when I go to do an update from the AgileBits website, I simply get a new application that I also cannot open for the same reason.

Please try this:
- Drag the 1P app to the trash (don't use any app cleaner tool, which is likely to try to delete files you need to keep).
- Empty the trash and reboot.
- Re-download and re-install 1P.
It will almost certainly solve your problem.

I can't even find where to post a question ~ this is the closest to my problem. Have 1Password5 on my Mac, since 10.10.3 update now I can't open 1Password. Do I have to buy new app for $49.99?

@chattycathy1956 have you tried what I suggested in my post above? If that doesn't work please tell us exactly what happens when you try to open 1P5 on your Mac? Do you see an error message? If so, what does it say?

Just to confirm what Stephen_C has posted.
You should always be able to launch 1Password 5 and you are not expected to purchase it again.
Please do try Stephen_C's suggestion and if needed, make sure your Download folder is free of previously downloaded copies; the purpose of these instructions is to ensure you have a freshly downloaded and hopefully uncorrupted copy of 1Password.
So if you're still having problems @justinleibow and @chattycathy1956 please tell us!

I will try what you suggested. Assuming my passwords won't be lost by doing this? It worked fine until I updated software. Sorry for posting in 2 spots, originally I couldn't find how to start a new thread.

If you follow exactly what I said in my post above—and particularly don't use any app cleaner tool—you will not lose any 1P data.

Hi @chattycathy1956,
Stephen_C is still correct, just in case you were worried at all
Your vault is stored in your Library folder, something that is actually hidden from you in Yosemite unless you go looking for it. One of the aspects of OS X that I actually like is how the Application is cleanly separated from other applications and indeed even its own support files if needed. App cleaners are our nearest nemesis in situations like this as if they offer to clean up after seeing 1Password being removed it would be your vault they're deleting.
So as long as you don't use an app cleaner you're safe. You can safely trash a copy of 1Password and download a fresh copy with no concerns over your vault being harmed. I spend my day trashing my vault and application in the name of support so it isn't something I've not done hundreds of times before myself. I do get it can be a bit daunting if you don't know any of that though.

One more question, I bought it through your site. Do I go there to download again? I had my licenses e-mailed to me but I don't see the key listed?

One more thing, the message on mine is "1Password failed to connect to 1Password mini" - different than the original poster but I think I still follow the same procedure correct?

Hi @chattycathy1956,
While there may be other causes it won't do any harm to confirm this doesn't sort it out.
As far as licensing goes, 1Password 4/5 use a licence file which you download. You shouldn't need to worry about this either though, 1Password should remember you're licensed from before but as long as you have the licence file you can easily re-add it by following our How do I add my license to 1Password? guide.
Lastly, yes, you want to download 1Password from the same place you purchased it so if you purchased on our site you would download from our AgileBits Download page.
If you have any more questions do please ask

That's great to hear @chattycathy1956
As this seems to be resolved for both of you I'm going to close this thread but if you have any questions or issues in the future don't hesitate to post!
