Family license purchased from Apple Store issue

Hello,

I recently purchased a family license of 1Pass for Mac from the App store and have a problem. I am American but currently reside in Japan and My wife is Japanese. I wanted to be able to allow both of us to use 1Pass and opted to buy from the App store to take advantage of iCould syncing.

The problem we are having is most likely not a 1Pass problem, but rather an App Store problem. I only have an American credit card and my wife only has a Japanese one and the App Store only allows connection to the localized store based on the origin of the credit card used for the account (it didn't used to BTW). So I am using the US App Store and my wife is using the Japanese one and it seems they are incompatible with each other...

We are of course living at he same address as well.

I was able to set up Family sharing on iCloud, but 1Pass does not show up in her "Purchased Apps" section of the store so she cannot install it.

My question is am I missing something or is there some sort of work around?
e.g. Switch my App Store license to a regular download license? I know we will lose iCloud syncing, but we can still use DropBox.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know :) .

Thank you in advance and BTW, love the app!!!

  • Hi @jomi,

Unfortunately, I don't have any advice to offer you to get this working correctly with the App Store. You would need to contact Apple about that.

However, if you would like to switch to the AgileBits Store version of 1Password, we can certainly help. Just send your Mac App Store receipt to: support@ agilebits .com

    Hi @jomi,

I don't have Apple's Family Sharing enabled but I have this nagging feeling in the back of my head that Apple really didn't make this all that intuitive and you don't simply have a merged Purchases history. Does this Apple KB article, Sharing purchased content with Family Sharing, help at all or does it simply tell you what you already knew?

One aspect I genuinely can't remark on is Family Sharing if the people involved have Apple accounts associated with different geographical areas - I don't know if Apple get odd at all or not. Good luck and I hope that link helps

    Hey @littlebobbytables,

Thanks for your suggestion. I am not really sure if I have seen that particular article before or not, although it does look familiar... But what I am sure of is that I set up family members and verified them on both my and my wife machines (both latest model Mac Book Air with latest version of Yosemite). So far as I can tell, Family Sharing just doesn't seem to work across different geographical regions.

Although I show up in my wife's machine as the "Administrator," she displays in my machine as a "Parent/Guardian," and we both have "Family Sharing" enabled, we just can't see and "Family purchases" anywhere. I checked both the App Store and iTunes, in accordance with the instructions in the article and there is nothing (Family Purchases selection doesn't even display). She has purchased quite a bit of music (I believe all DRM free), but I can't see any of her purchases in iTunes, and (albeit not as much) I also have a few song purchases, but none of my music is visible on her iTunes Store as either. >_<

I will continue to look around when I have time, but I believe the best and easiest solution may well be to switch from the App Store to AgileBits Store version. I will dig up the purchase receipt and be in touch...

Thanks again for your ideas and sorry about causing you discomfort "in the back of your head!" :)

    Cheers
