New update causes 1Password to fail to start.

OSX 10.10.3
1Password 5.3

If I try to start 1 Password from the application shortcut it beachballs for a while then gives me an error message.

"1Password failed to connect to 1Password mini. Please quit 1Password and start again."

I then have to force quit to attempt to restart. Same result every time.

If I try to access 1 Password from the browser I get:

"The 1Password app must be installed for the extension to work correctly."

I uninstalled, rebooted, and reinstalled 1Password from the AppStore. Same result.

Any suggestions on what to try next.

Having similar problem -- 1Password 5.3 not launching -- except error message is "1Password 5 cannot be opened because of a problem." This started occurring after update to OS X 10.10.3.

Now normally the following resolves the issue every time @kurtzimmerman,

    1. Quit both 1Password and 1Password mini. You can do this with the keyboard shortcut ⌃⌘Q when 1Password is open (it doesn't have to be unlocked).
    2. Drag the 1Password application from your /Applications/ folder to the Trash. Please don't use an app cleaner.
    3. Reboot your Mac.
    4. Download 1Password again from the same place you purchased it. So via Apple's App Store application if you're a MAS user and from our AgileBits Download page if you're an Agile Web Store (AWS) customer.

Please do let us know how you get along.

    @tombenson@gmail.com,

Your issue may be different. It sounds more like something might be interfering with communications between 1Password mini and the main window or the extension. Assuming you when you did your uninstall, reboot and reinstall you followed the steps I've detailed above for kurtzimmerman, then a diagnostic report from you might be needed.

I would like you to create the following Diagnostic Report.

Then attach everything to an email to us: support+ forum@agilebits.com

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

Once you've sent the Report a post here with the ticket ID will help us to keep an eye out for it. :)

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

  • @tombenson@gmail.com - Thanks, we received your diagnostics report and we will continue to troubleshoot this with you via our support system.

    I'm having a similar problem:

1Password 5 cannot be opened because of a problem.

Check with the developer to make sure 1Password 5 works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X.

Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.

Please advise. I can't afford to NOT have access to all of my passwords.

  • @mpal11 - Could you create a diagnostics report as per this guide -https://guides.agilebits.com/kb/1password4/en/topic/diagnostics-report#mac4

    • and email it to us at support+forum@agilebits.com. Please can you also include a link back to this discussion. Thanks!
