I can't open 1Password

Same issue with me - was forced to download new version & it will not launch! I'm entirely locked out!

I'm sorry that you're going through this. This is usually caused by one of two reasons:
- If you have multiple instances of 1Password on available on your Mac (even if it's just on a backup drive), then the system can try to start up the incorrect mini, and things can go wrong there. Finding any extra instances of 1Password and dragging them to the trash should help with this.
- The system's database about apps and their helpers could be out of date. A reboot usually fixes this.
I hope this helps.

I have done a search for multiple instances of 1Password the attached screen captures are what I found. I'm not sure if having it listed in my home folder and my Mac hard drive is necessary or a problem.

I have rebooted several times. That doesn't fix it. I have also tried opening the application without the back up drive being connected. That didn't work either.

Hi @DChelpka,
Thank you for the screenshots of your search results! It looks like you have 2 copies of 1Password 5.app on your Mac, which could cause the problem you're having. One copy is in your Mac's main Applications folder, and another copy is in your Mac user account's Application folder. Or in other words, they're located here:
Macintosh HD/Applications/1Password 5.app
Macintosh HD/Users/Denise/Applications/1Password 5.app
Try deleting the copy from
Denise/Applications
by dragging that 1Password 5.app file to the Trash (don't use any app cleaning utilities). Empty the Trash, then restart your Mac again. When it restarts, go to the main Applications folder and double-click on the 1Password 5.app that should still be there. Does it work, or do you get the same error?Hopefully it works now, but if you still get the same error message, drag 1Password 5.app from Applications to the Trash, empty the Trash, restart your Mac again, then download a fresh copy of 1Password 5 from our download site. Once it downloads, unzip the file (if necessary) and move the new copy of 1Password 5.app to the main Applications folder. Does it work?
Let us know how it goes. If it's still a problem, we'll continue from there. Thanks!

I TRIED ALL SUGGESTIONS. I COMPLETELY UNINSTALLED AND REINSTALLED. I CANNOT GET MY PASSWORDS!!! I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THIS SITE https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-mac/4/en/topic/getting-started-again-on-a-new-different-computer. THESE ARE THE OPTIONS IT SHOWS.
THE ACTUAL INSTRUCTIONS DO NOT INCLUDE ICLOUD. THAT IS MY ONLY BACKUP. IF I EVER GET THIS RUNNING I VERY WELL MAY DITCH 1PASSWORD AND GO BACK TO MY OWN PASSWORDS I CAN ACTUALLY REMEMBER. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROGRAM TO ANYONE ELSE, AND YES, I AM YELLING!!!0 -
Hi @DChelpka,
I'm very sorry you're having more trouble with this! I know it must be quite frustrating for you, so I can understand why you're "yelling", but unfortunately that makes it a bit more difficult for us to read. :dizzy: Writing future messages without using all caps will make it easier for us to help. We want to solve this problem as quickly as we can!
I see that you're already receiving help for this issue via email support, and have sent us a diagnostics report as well as some other information. We'll keep the conversation going via email so we don't duplicate efforts or cause confusion between here and there. I will update the email thread with details from this forum discussion in case it helps our support team, and someone should be getting back to you again as soon as possible to continue helping you get this all sorted out.
Thanks so much for your patience! I'm sure we'll have this all figured out very soon. :)
