1Password 5 doesn't work with Yosemite
Hey everyone,
I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.3, and 1 Password was working fine before and after the upgrade. I'm guessing it was version 4.4.3 that was working fine. Then a popup appears telling me there is a new version of 1 Password (v05), which I download, but it won't open. It throws an error message ~
Message reads: (Bold) 1Password cannot be opened because of a problem /bold. Check with the developer to make sure 1Password 5 works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X. Click Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple.
I download v05 again with the same result. I download 4.4.3 again and it works fine. Is anyone aware of issues getting the latest 1PW to work on Yosemite?
Thanks

Im also having the same problem....

Exact same behavior as described by @simonOnePassword. OSX 10.13 on a late 2011 MacBook Pro. Downgrading to 4.4.3 for now.

Exact same issues and HIGHLY annoying! had to downgrade to V4
when do they estimate this to be resolved?0 -
No issues here on 10.10.3.
Have you tried a fresh download from your store. MAS for those whom purchased there and web for those who purchased from that store.
Quit 1Password and the mini app, drag the app to the trash and download a new copy. Install as usual.

Clean install solved my problem

Hi everyone,
I think you're all getting hit by the same problem... and that is that in certain (rare) instances, the app can get damaged during an update. One of the symptoms of this problem is the system then claiming it's no longer compatible.
The workaround is to drag the app to the trash, and download a fresh version from our website.
We fixed the bug that we think causes this and another set of issues in 1Password 5.3, but that'll only help users updating from 5.3 to something newer.

This didn't work for me. It was working fine on Yosemite until yesterday, then suddenly wasn't. I couldn't even find it in applications. Downloaded new one and dragged it to applications folder. Now it won't open at all, not even with an error message.

Suddenly getting the same error message as described above after an Yosemite update. Couldn't even find 1PW 5 in my apps folder (why wasn't it next to my old PW 3?) but downloaded and re-installed. Now it won't open at all, not even to give an error message. This may drive me away from 1pw and back to an old-fashioned pw-protected excel spreadsheet, as my inability to access my passwords is disrupting my ability to get things done!

addendum to the above - should I downgrade to v4.4.3?

@landylaura I have split your similar comment from the other thread in which you posted. It's much better to keep problems in one appropriate thread than to spread them around in different threads. If you post about the same problem in more than one place it makes support harder and also makes it more difficult for you to find the answer to your problem.

Hi @landylaura,
Sorry to hear about the trouble you're encountering with 1Password not opening. First I'd like to mention I changed your forum username from your full email address to protect your privacy.
1Password works best when there is only one copy of the app software on your computer. If you have 1Password 5 installed, there's no reason to keep 1Password 3, so please delete 1Password 3 (manually move it to the Trash, without using any app cleaning utilities). Please also make sure you don't have any 1Password apps in your Downloads folder.
It's also a good idea to delete some of the obsolete support files that may remain from 1Password 3:
- In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder… in the menu bar. Enter the following: ~/Library/LaunchAgents
- Delete ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist
- Choose Go > Go to Folder… and enter: ~/Library/Application Support/1Password
- Delete the Agent folder
- Empty the Trash
- Restart your Mac
Now can you open 1Password 5 from your applications folder?

I hesitate to completely delete PW3 yet because it's my only record of passwords! Can I just move all these things onto the desktop and put them back if PW5 continues not to work, or do they have to go to trash?

@landylaura : you can move them to the desktop. Ideally move them to the desktop within a folder, then right click on that folder and select Compress... which will create a zip file. Then delete the folder. Basically we want to hide this stuff from the system, and the system won't go looking inside of zip files.

Hi @landylaura,
Sorry for any confusion in my previous instructions; to be clear, deleting those 1Password 3 remnants will not delete your passwords. Those are just pieces of the application, not the vault. The vault is stored separately and is not affected if you delete the 1Password.app file or the other files I mentioned above.
As for getting 1Password 5 working, please try this:
- Drag to the trash any and all files on your computer called
1Password 5.app
. - Empty the trash.
- Download and install a fresh copy from https://agilebits.com/onepassword/mac and move it to your Applications folder.
I think that should work for you. Please let us know. If not, we'll request a Diagnostics Report so we can take a deeper look. Thanks! :)
