[Feature Request] 1Password’s URL scheme and Launch Center Pro or...
Currently, with 1Password’s URL scheme within Launch Center Pro (LCP), I can:
- Launch 1Password
- Search for Entry
- Open HTTP URL
- Open HTTPS URL
One glaring omission to this list is “Open Entry”. If I know exactly what I’m looking for, e.g. an entry named “Dropbox”, why must I first go through a search? I know, “what if I have 2 items named “Dropbox”? Well, either switch the name to be more descriptive (e.g. “Dropbox (business)” and “Dropbox (personal)”), let 1Password default to the current behavior of search, or allow unique ID (that the user can use) to partner with LCP so we can always get the correct login/2FA entry.
The thought for this functionality came when I switched from Authy to 1Password for 2 factor authentication (2FA). I previously used LCP to make a list of my 2FA entries in Authy, here’s how I’d use it:
- I tap LCP
- tap and hold the group, move my finger and let go on the Authy list icon which would bring up a list of my 2FA accounts
- tap the 2FA code I needed
- I’d be in Authy with the code ready to copy.
- Copy
Then I moved to 1Password… I now must search (which I have since created pre-populated searches in LCP, similar to what I had in LCP using Authy). This isn’t the end of the world, but instead of searching, then tapping to open the entry, then tapping the code to copy. I understand this is just a tap or two difference, but with as much as 2FA is used — it’d be awesome to have this.
The other option would be to do this from within Safari using the extension…
- tap share
- tap extensions
- tap 1Password
- TouchID
- tap the “i” on the login that has 2FA
- tap the 2FA code
- tap Copy
- clear out of the screens
- tap the area where 2FA code goes in
- tap Paste
Clearly, not ideal.
Another implementation could be, after you’ve searched (or even just when browsing logins) give the ability to swipe right to left to “Copy 2FA Code” and have a timer next to it to allow a visual to see when the code is set to expire. The swipe left to right for “Copy Password” is already there… It’s a slick implementation that would only be activated if you know it’s there. Heck, it could be disabled on those logins that don’t have 2FA or the swipe right to left feature could be customized in the app’s settings.
So, the short of the long… my request:
- (the easy one?) allow LCP to have 1Password open right to a specific entry, eliminating the search if I know what I’m looking for
- (the slick one?) if I must search, implement a swipe right to left (like the current swipe left to right for “Copy Password”) for “Copy 2FA Code” with a timer to know when it’ll expire.

Thanks for the suggestions, @davidjoelhall! I think these are great ideas, and I'd be happy to pass them along to our development team for their consideration. As you may be aware multi-step authentication is a new feature to 1Password, so we definitely hope to expand its usefulness as we progress.
Also, FWIW, it isn't actually "two factor" authentication if you store both the password and OTP in the same place, it is "multi-step" or "two step" authentication. For it to be considered multi-factor the credentials would have to be stored in physically separate places (e.g. one in your memory and one on your phone).
