Hi @dphotoman1,
Thanks for taking the time to contact us. I'm not certain that I understand what the issue is. Could you please describe in as much detail as possible the steps you are taking, and what you are [not] seeing happen? With some additional information from you we can then provide you with specific assistance.
It would also be helpful to know the specific version(s) of 1Password you have installed on your MacBooks, Mac mini, and iOS device(s).
Thanks in advance!

I have 3 macs. 1 minimac, 2 macbookpros. All have PB on them. I want to be able to for example add a new on the minimac and have it sync to the other two machines. They all have 5.4 beta 8 installed. I have selected to use dropbox.
steps taken 1. add new PW signin , check it by logging off and then back on. Then occasionally I will go to the screen that says sync now and select that option. Perhps I dont understand what sync means but I thought it means that it will transmit the addition (new login) to the other two machines.
I'm thanking you in advance for your time and patience with this old man. (70 years old).

I hope this was sent to the team member that reponded to my prior question.

Thank you for those additional details, @dphotoman1. Anything you post here will be visible to the team here (as well as the public, so do be mindful of that). If we need to switch to private support at any time, we can do so, but I think we can get things up and running for you right here. :)
Let's start with a few more questions before we dive in too deeply. Measure twice, cut once, right?
- Have you already been syncing your 1Password data on any of the existing Macs (via Dropbox or otherwise)? Or are you asking how to set up Dropbox for the first time on all of your Macs?
- Of the Macs you listed, do you have a "main" Mac that you would say contains a complete set of your 1Password data? That is to say, if we were to start setting up syncing from one Mac to all the others, would there be one that you would want to propagate to all your others? They would all sync bidirectionally once things are set up, but it might help your mental model of things to start with that Mac.
Thank you for your patience with this thirtysomething who is still wet behind the ears when it comes to the school of life.

yes i think i have been syncing. When i select sync it tells me it synced 3 seconds ago, and has a timer running, just a choice of time, not that it always says 3 seconds. Yes I have a main mac as you describe it. It would be the one with the largest or at least most current "set" of logins.

Ok, great! So…just to be extra super sure…if you create a new item in 1Password on your "main" Mac, does it show up in 1Password on one of the other Macs you have been syncing with? We want to make sure that the existing sync setup is working before we add another Mac. Once we confirm that, it is relatively straightforward to add an additional one.
[Sorry if that's all you were ever trying to do, but I wasn't 100% sure that syncing with Dropbox was already working flawlessly for you, so I thought it prudent to verify.]

I just added a new login on my main . It works and signs me in when using my main. Went over to other macbook and the new login did not show up even though it said it synced a minute before

my main shows a total of 166 items since i added the new one. the macbook that I checked showed 165 total; however earlier this evening I was experimenting and exported (from file menu), copied to thumb drive and imported to the second macbook. Before this import there was a considerable difference in the number of items on these two machines. I think the export/import method worked but a real pain when it can be done with the "normal"sync.

Thanks for the update, @dphotoman1. You definitely don't want to be using the export feature unless you have to. Not only is it far less convenient than automatic syncing, but it is also less secure. Exported data is unencrypted (as the warning stated when you exported the data).
So be sure to securely delete the file from your thumb drive or anywhere else you may have placed a copy of it.
Now, with that out of the way, let's complete Dropbox sync setup so everything is automatically and securely up to date everywhere.
On your main Mac, follow these instructions to make sure that Dropbox is installed and running and that 1Password is configured to sync with Dropbox:
1Password for Mac: Sync with Dropbox
Then, just be sure that you are signed in to the same Dropbox account in the Dropbox app on your other Macs and turn on Dropbox syncing in 1Password's Sync preferences in the same manner. (Presumably you only have one Dropbox account, so that should make it easy to avoid logging in to another account. I only mention it for the sake of completeness.)
If you get stuck at any point, please let me know which step in that guide you are stuck on and on which Mac. If should be a relatively straightforward process, but if you hit any speed bumps we'll work through them. :)

Hi @dphotoman1,
Great, it sounds like you've made some progress! So, all 3 Macs are now syncing correctly via Dropbox, but your iPad and iPhone are still having some trouble? In that case, please check to make sure Dropbox sync is enabled in 1Password on your iPad and iPhone:
On each iOS device, open 1Password and go to Settings > Sync. Does it show that the Sync Service is Dropbox? If not, follow these steps to set up Dropbox sync.
If Dropbox sync is already set up in 1Password on your iPad and iPhone, but the sync isn't working, follow these steps to make sure they're syncing with the same keychain file in Dropbox as your Macs:
On one of your Macs:
- Open 1Password and go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences
- Click the Sync tab
- Check the file path for the 1Password.agilekeychain file
On each iOS device:
- Open 1Password and go to Settings > Sync > Sync Service
- Check the file path for the 1Password.agilekeychain file (underneath Current Sync Method / Dropbox)
If the problem is that the iOS devices are syncing with a different keychain file than your Macs, you'll need to disable the sync on each iOS device, then set it up again and choose the correct keychain file.
Let us know how it all goes, thanks!

yep, that fixed part of the problem Now the master mac (One of my laptops) indicates 165 total items, while all other machines indicate 185 items. That is the mini mac, other laptop, iPhone, and i-Pad. Getting closer all the time. Thanks guys

Hi @dphotoman1,
Like you did before with the iOS devices, it would seem worthwhile double checking that the MacBook with 165 items is indeed syncing to the same 1Password.agilekeychain as the others. That would be my first guess.
It probably isn't required but just to highlight on the Mac, this path would need to be the same on each.
After that we'd want to check and make sure Dropbox is properly working. If you place a file, any file will do, in your Dropbox folder on one of your other Macs does it show up everywhere else, especially on the MacBook with the missing items? If it shows up everywhere but this MacBook we've identified that Dropbox isn't syncing on the MacBook and we can help you with that. If the file syncs and the 1Password.agilekeychain paths match then we have a more difficult problem ahead of us.
If you can let us know about the paths and the test file in Dropbox though and we'll continue from there

WOW ! I'm impressed !
Such effective and detailed hand-holding by 1PW support staff.
Not many other help forums can do such a good (individualized) job. - kudos to you all.0 -
Really, None of these guys gave up on me, despite my many mistakes. Super support with a great understanding of problems clients have without a very clear description of the problem. They are very thoughtful and show a strong desire to solve peoples problems.
