Ipad - keyboard covers up the password box - can't see what I'm typing

I've noticed on my ipad mini (have not checked the full size ipad) that when I launch 1PW - and need to enter my password - the screen based keyboard pops up and covers up the entry box where I would type my master pw so I cannot see what I am typing - I know the characters show up as dots for security but I can't see the BOX at all. if I have typing sounds off I have no real idea if I entered enough or too many letters.

    Hi @PDI,

Can I ask a couple of questions please.

    • The version of 1Password for iOS that you're currently running. The latest version is 5.3.1.
    • Is your keyboard docked at the bottom of the page or undocked and floating?
    • Does it do this all the time, even after rebooting your iPad?

I ask about the keyboard as I see we have an open bug report about an undocked keyboard. Surprisingly though I couldn't replicate this myself and when I tested on my iPad mini 2, whether the keyboard was docked or undocked, portrait or landscape orientation, the password field moved to an appropriate location above or under the keyboard. Still, that bug report is still open.

So I'd be curious to know if you do normally use an undocked keyboard if the problem disappears with a docked keyboard or if a reboot makes any difference. Hopefully we can figure out what is going on

I am running 5.4.1 Currently running iOS8.3 I usually have the keyboard docked and at the bottom - I rarely use it undocked or floating. It always does this, yes, even after reboot. The only time it doesn't is if I use touch ID. I just rebooted to verify and yes, the keyboard remained docked at the bottom of the page so it covered the password field. I CAN split or undock the keyboard and then I can see the PW box BUT two handed typing isn't always convenient. I don't always have touch ID enabled either. It's just something I noted recently when using my iPad - normally I'm on my phone or computer. Thanks for looking into this.

@PDI: At the risk of sounding silly, how does one even attempt to type on an iPad on-handed? I can barely do this on an iPhone 6... :dizzy:

But in all seriousness, the onscreen keyboard covering content is one of my biggest hurdles to using the iPad more as well. Hopefully Apple can come up with a solution for this that doesn't involve us having to carry around a physical keyboard! Unfortunately 3rd party apps don't have control over how the keyboard is displayed, only when it is brought up using a text field. Personally, I prefer to use my iPad mini in portrait mode for this reason.

What you're describing doesn't sound out of the ordinary to me, but if I'm misunderstand it might help to include a screenshot and specific steps to reproduce the issue. :)

i primarily use my ipad for reading, movies, browsing the web - I rarely use it for "productivity" since I prefer my computer so when I need to get in to a secure website all I need is to enter my 1PW master pw (if touch ID is not available) and one handed works just fine wink - It's an age thing I'm sure! I do use portrait mode and I guess I will just either learn to split the keyboard just to enter my 1PW info or type it "blind" and hope I get it right the first time. Much of the time touch ID does the trick - it just seems to be a bug that is annoying - not insurmountable.

@PDI: Are you calling me old? ;)

But in all seriousness, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. We'll continue to investigate to see if we can pin this down and perhaps find a workaround, but it may be that Apple beats us to it! Your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated, given the circumstances. Cheers! :)
