Trouble with Sync via Dropbox

Hello Forum:

My System:
iMac with Mac OS X 10.9.5 with 1PW4 with 103 Objects
MPB with Mac OS X 10.9.5 with 1PW4 with 13 Objects
iPad with iOS8.1 with PW 5.4.1 with 5 Object.

Aim is to sync between iMac, MBP, iPad via Dropbox.

It was a suggestion from agile bits support.

On all Mac and iPad I have installed Dropbox.

On all I see the same folders and files via application Dropbox or in Safari.

First I start 1PW4 on iMac > Preferences > Synchronisierung > relevant folder using.
I see in the 1PW4 Synchronisierung the path User/Dropbox/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain
I see the text Dropbox Synchronisierung läuft.

I see this now for 5 hours???

I don't understand the long time.

Must not be an end?

What is wrong?

My mistake maybe but what?

Please give feedback.

Regards

Jochen

    Hi @hansjoachim,

Five hours is definitely way too long.

The first thing I would try is quitting 1Password and seeing if the status changes when you next launch it. I would recommend quitting using the ⌃⌘Q keyboard shortcut to eliminate any doubt. This will require you to enter your Master Password again.

If that doesn't work I would then suggest disabling Dropbox Sync and when requested, tick the checkbox to delete the .agilekeychain. Give Dropbox a moment to sync this and then try re-enabling Dropbox sync. Does it work any better on a second attempt?

Hopefully this is a small blip and once we get Dropbox going it will run without issue

    I do this. When I start 1PW4 > preferences > Synchro I see following.

    The use of Dropbox works.
I create a new empty in Dropbox on my iMac.
After some seconds I see the same folder on MBP and iPad

    Horrible.

I understand it so that after start of sync the passwords are stored in User/Dropbox/ 1Password/1Password.agilekeychain?
    Is that right?
When the sync in 1PW4 is finished must a message come?

    Hi @hansjoachim,

I had to do a little translation to understand what you are seeing but if I'm correct that last image says that 1Password is reporting it last synchronised 9 hours ago.

There are certain events that trigger a synchronisation so it doesn't mean to say that seeing it report 9 hours is a bad thing.

    • Unlocking your vault should always trigger a synchronisation as it doesn't know what may have happened while it has been locked.
    • Creating a new item should trigger a synchronisation as 1Password needs to write it to the .agilekeychain.
    • Changes to the .agilekeychain from another copy of 1Password. We watched the .agilekeychain folder for change notifications. When the system reports files have changed we should read them.

If you keep 1Password open for long periods of time and there are no changes to the .agilekeychain then the time between synchronisations can be long.

Now if you know that there items or changes missing from this copy of 1Password and locking and unlocking your vault doesn't force a synchronisation then we do have a problem and we'll probably ask you for diagnostic report.

Let us know if this explanation helps at all or if we need to continue the troubleshooting

Thanks for feedback. I need time to translate and understand Your answer. I'm not native English speaker.
    I give answer later.

You may not be a native speaker of English @hansjoachim but it is safe to say your grasp of English will be far better than my understanding of your native language

    Two Qustion:

Where is normally the agilekeychain stored on the Mac?
    ~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/
Is the name of file 1Password.agilekeychain

There's a very helpful knowledge base article:

Where does 1Password store its data?

See if that helps—particularly the sections about the vault database and the Dropbox sync data.

    @ Stephen_C and @Drew_AG.

    Thanks for feedback.

    It was interesting info;-)

With help of an admin via talking in other forum in Germany the problem was solved.
The reason of problem was not found.
    We do following today.
I set 1PW4 on my MBP fresh and new and do the sync workflow again.
    Then it works.

    Regards
