One-Time Passwords Don't Always Work from 1Password Mac
Hello,
There've been a few instances in the past month where the one-time password from 1Password for Mac was not accepted (on a few of my accounts). When this happens, using the one-time password from 1Password for iPhone always worked. Any suggestions for how to fix this? I've never had a key from the iPhone version rejected, but the Mac app usually works.
Thanks in advance,
Josh

Hi @jafish,
In my admittedly limited testing of TOTP I've never seen Mac and iOS diverge in the code they displayed. In fact they probably share the same code in both making differences unlikely. What can affect it though is the time clock. If the two are not synchronised and not just with each other but with the server you're authenticating with then you can have problems. The reason is that the time is part of the algorithm so if the different devices are using different times they can be out of sync.
Could that be a plausible explanation at all?
Now I am assuming that you synchronised 1Password between your Mac and iPhone to pass the secret between the two and didn't manually enter it.

It helped to find out how the algorithm worked! I found out that for some reason I had the "set date and time automatically" setting unchecked under the Date & Time preferences in Yosemite. As soon as I checked that box, the codes on my iPhone and Mac synced up. Thanks for the help.

Hi @jafish,
It's easy to do and given it's all automatic who thinks to check? TOTP codes are probably one of the few places where it would really highlight this so I'm glad we could help you out
