Menubar Functionality, etc.
I have been yearning for a particular feature now for a couple years. The Menubar and in-browser 1PW is quite burdensome at the moment and I think a couple of quick tweaks could help it dramatically. The first is that there should be an option to retain the last search and its accompanying results. Whenever I search for something I am very frequently NOT done with the item. I will copy a field and then need to go back and copy another field. It's a real hassle to have to search again for the item and then copy the next field. Retain context and simply have a little (x) to delete the contents rapidly when the user wants to start searching from scratch again.
On the Menubar mini-1PW, also give us the option to have more information here. I'd quite frankly like to see much more of 1PW proper right there in the dropdown so that the application is more robust from the dropdown context. It would also be very useful to have an anchor or pushpin button to keep 1PW in it's present dropdown position vs just disappearing after moving to another window. A good example of this kind of use would be GrowlVoice's anchor button in terms of keeping a Menubar item up for reference.
Finally, one other point that needs to be addressed is that in the "View" -> "Item List Layout" -> "Left" functionality, it would be good to give us the option to make this more compact and more akin to the "Top" format. I don't like to see date or various header separations. This view needs to be redesigned to offer a third option called "Compact Left" that gives the feel of "Top" with the columnar position of "Left."

Hi @ylluminate,
Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts here! I just wanted to let you know that I've moved your comments into the general 1Password for Mac category and out of the beta category, since we don't seem to be discussing anything that would be specific to the betas.
The first is that there should be an option to retain the last search and its accompanying results.
We have an open feature request for this, and I'm happy to add a vote for you in our internal tracker.

I'm not quite sure I understand this request. I think that 1Password mini does a pretty great job of showing you the information you need for a given item, in fact there is an anchor icon in the bottom corner of the item's details that allow you to 'pin' that detail window to your screen.
Finally, one other point that needs to be addressed is that in the "View" -> "Item List Layout" -> "Left" functionality, it would be good to give us the option to make this more compact and more akin to the "Top" format.
Thanks for the feedback! I'll let our developers know you're interested in an option like this.

Hey Megan, I appreciate your sharing that screenshot and taking action on the other points. You're right in that mini-1PW does really do that well for a user with just a handful of logins there, but things really start to fall apart when you get to any level over that in my opinion. I have several thousand items in 1PW and the "mini" version just has never worked as I need it to work. One thing, for example, is that I'd like to see the dropdown itself have an anchor function. I don't want to anchor individual items, but rather the actual dropdown. Frankly I guess the best way to describe this would be to have a 1PW "Medium"... :) It would essentially be a middle ground between the standard 1PW interface and Mini wherein you'd have the same kind of layout that 1PW has, but it would come down as a dropdown from the menubar. Or perhaps make the menubar icon have an option to simply hide and reveal the main 1PW window vs having a mini and then all that would need to be done is to add an anchor to the main window for when users want to keep it. I realize that it probably takes a special kind of user to see the value in this, but it's always nagged me. I just have never liked Mini... and I've never been thrilled with the main window in that it has always actively occupied a space on my displays. I have 4 screens and 1/2 of one of my screens is dedicated to 1PW. I'd love for that to go away and be a feature of the Menubar instead somehow.

Hi @ylluminate ,
I'd be really curious to hear a little bit more about your workflow, and how exactly this new '1Password medium' would fit into that. I guess I'm just not quite understanding where the Mini is not working for you. Perhaps we can find a way to make the existing Mini work better for you.

Hi @ylluminate,
I spotted this in your last reply:
One thing, for example, is that I'd like to see the dropdown itself have an anchor function. I don't want to anchor individual items, but rather the actual dropdown.
Sounds like you want the ability to keep the 1Password mini window open ("anchored") until explicitly closing it. I've made a note of that in a related request we have in our tracker.
Or perhaps make the menubar icon have an option to simply hide and reveal the main 1PW window vs having a mini and then all that would need to be done is to add an anchor to the main window for when users want to keep it.
Not sure I understand how that would differ from hiding/showing (or minimizing/unminimzing) the main app window, which is already possible without 1Password menu bar icon usage.
