Multiple versions on Dropbox
I have been using 1Password for a number of years, starting with version 3, and am now on the beta 14 of 5.4. I sync my passwords between my two Macs, my iPhone and my iPad through Dropbox, but I now find that I have a number of different instances of 1Password.agilekeychain scattered at various points in Dropbox. Am I right in assuming that these are all different 'vaults' that have been set up at different times — going back to 2011 — and would it be safe to delete all of them other than the one that has the latest modification date? I do not need separate vaults for different purposes, and am sure these have arisen during the upgrading and purchasing of new hardware.
Many thanks
Mark

Hi @xiamenese,
It's great to hear you've been using 1Password for several years now! :)
The default location for 1Password.agilekeychain in Dropbox has changed once or twice over the years, so if you've ever needed to disable and/or re-enable Dropbox sync in 1Password on any of your Macs or iOS devices, it's possible that created a new keychain in a new default location. (That's my best guess for why you're seeing multiple keychains in Dropbox, although there are certainly other possible explanations.)
Normally you wouldn't have/need multiple keychains in Dropbox unless you have multiple vaults in 1Password, and each vault is syncing with Dropbox. But it sounds like you only have one vault (i.e. Primary) in 1Password, so you can remove the extra keychains from Dropbox if you'd like. Before doing that, there are a couple things you should check:
First, is your data syncing correctly between both Macs and iOS devices? To confirm that, you can add a new item to 1Password on one, and see if it shows up on the others.
You should also check which copy of 1Password.agilekeychain is syncing with 1Password on each Mac and iOS device:
- On each Mac, open 1Password and go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences, then click the Sync tab and check the file path for the 1Password.agilekeychain file.
- On each iOS device, open 1Password and go to Settings > Sync > Sync Service, then check the file path for the 1Password.agilekeychain file (underneath Current Sync Method / Dropbox).
If they're all syncing with the same copy of 1Password.agilekeychain, you can remove the other copies from Dropbox. If you'd like to see what information is contained in the other keychains, keep them in Dropbox for now, and use 1PasswordAnywhere from Dropbox.com to view each one. Then you can remove them from Dropbox if you're sure you don't need them (make sure to leave the keychain that is currently syncing, though).
I hope that helps, but if you have any questions about that, be sure to let us know!

Thanks very much. I'll check thoroughly before I delete the redundant keychains following your advice.

You're very welcome! By the way, even if you were to delete the current "in use" keychain from Dropbox by accident, that would just result in Dropbox sync getting disabled in 1Password on each Mac and iOS device (you can re-enable it, which will create a new keychain). You won't lose any of your 1Password data, because that's also stored locally - the data in Dropbox is just used for syncing.
We're here for you if you need anything else! :)
