The ability to purchase 1Password is a mess.. a licensing and purchasing mess.
I have a mac.. I have mobile devices.
Where do I go to buy 1Password to work on all of them?
I am afraid to trust your store as it doesn't seem to relate to my iphone version.
$50 is a huge amount to gamble on an app in iTunes when most charge under $5
Awaiting a single reply with a URL to purchase 1 password that will work on my mac and iphone and be able to import all the 200+ accounts I have entered into my trial version

    Hi @cboy,

I'm sorry for any confusion about licensing for the Mac and iOS versions of 1Password! I'll be happy to explain how that all works.

1Password is licensed separately on each supported platform, which means the Mac and iOS versions of 1Password are sold separately. Because Mac computers and iOS devices run different operating systems, they use different apps. We do not sell 1Password for Mac and iOS together as a bundle because Apple doesn't currently provide a way of doing so. You can find more information about how 1Password is licensed here: What licenses do I need to use 1Password on all my devices?

1Password 5 for iOS is a free download, and offers free basic features. From your other discussion in our iOS forum, it sounds like you've purchased the Pro Features for 1Password 5 for iOS. That allows you to activate those Pro Features in 1Password 5 on all your iOS 8 devices associated with your Apple ID. However, that only applies to the iOS app, and doesn't give you a license for the Mac version.

1Password 5 for Mac is available from the AgileBits Store or the Mac App Store. The main difference is that iCloud sync is only available in the Mac App Store version (both versions support Dropbox and Wi-Fi sync). We have more information about the difference between the Mac App Store and AgileBits Store versions here: Should I buy 1Password from the AgileBits Store or the Mac App Store?

I'm sorry again for the confusion, but I hope this helps to clear things up. If you have more questions, please don't hesitate to let us know - we're here for you!

Unfortunately it was that link to "Should I buy 1Password from the AgileBits Store or the Mac App Store?" that stops me from buying your product. There is license information about half the product.

For example it seems if there is an upgrade and I buy from the shop I get a free upgrade, but not from iTunes? Where is the iTunes information? Are you 1Password on iTunes? or do I contact a different 1Password to get that information?

I have purchased the PRO iOS since I trust Apple and it took 30 seconds. This is bloody ridiculous.

I am completely confused by the trial application. When I go to purchase the product I have no clue if I am in the "store" or "apple".

If no upgrades are included, where is the upgrade prices that have needed to be paid in the past? When I go to https://agilebits.com/store/upgrade?product_id=109 there is NO prices listed for upgrades.. does that mean upgrades are $5.. $500? Are you going to cheat me after I buy your product and I am just going to be stuck with at $50 paperweight that doesn't work with the new MacOS unless I continue pay every OS upgrade?

    Where is your transparency?

Then I go to https://agilebits.com/store and see 1Password for Mac MUST be purchased from Apple/iTunes if I want to use the iCloud Sync...
do you see the disconnect and HUGE lack of information being shared?

There is no clear comparison of the 2 products and list of limitations/restrictions when I purchase one or the other.

@cboy: 1Password for Mac is a full product which is available for purchase from the Mac App Store. It is also available directly from us, but that version cannot use iCloud, as Apple only allows it in apps sold in its store.

For example it seems if there is an upgrade and I buy from the shop I get a free upgrade, but not from iTunes? Where is the iTunes information? Are you 1Password on iTunes? or do I contact a different 1Password to get that information?

The only 'upgrade' pricing available is for older licenses purchased through AgileBits (Mac or Windows versions). We aren't able to offer upgrade pricing through stores owned and operated by Apple (iOS, Mac) and Google (Android). You can get 1Password for iOS through the iOS App Store, though it sounds like you already have. :)

I have purchased the PRO iOS since I trust Apple and it took 30 seconds. This is bloody ridiculous.

Since iOS apps are purchased and downloaded through the App Store, which Apple owns and operates, AgileBits does not have any control over the purchase or download process. 30 seconds doesn't sound bad to me, but there's always room for improvement!

I am completely confused by the trial application. When I go to purchase the product I have no clue if I am in the "store" or "apple".

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Again, as Drew_AG mentioned, 1Password is available on different platforms since each is distinct (i.e. you cannot run an iOS app on your Mac and vice versa). Additionally, iOS apps can only be sold through the iOS App Store (just as Android apps are sold through the Google Play store, etc.) 1Password for iOS is not a 'trial'. It is a free app with basic features, with an in-app purchase for Pro Features, should you wish to have them.

As for 1Password for Mac, you can use it as an unlimited trial for 30 days, and after than you will need to purchase a license in order to make further changes.

If no upgrades are included, where is the upgrade prices that have needed to be paid in the past?

The upgrade is based on the license you have. For instance, someone upgrading from the previous version might pay less than an upgrade from the very first. Again, this only applies to the Mac or Windows apps purchased from the AgileBits Store, since we can offer upgrade pricing there (it's our store, after all!)

When I go to https://agilebits.com/store/upgrade?product_id=109 there is NO prices listed for upgrades.. does that mean upgrades are $5.. $500?

I'm not sure where you're getting these numbers. In order to see pricing for an upgrade, you have to have a license you are upgrading, which you can paste into the form to see your upgrade eligibility. Anyway, if a new license is 50$ and an upgrade is 500$, I don't know about you, but I'd just buy a new license. ;)

Are you going to cheat me after I buy your product and I am just going to be stuck with at $50 paperweight that doesn't work with the new MacOS unless I continue pay every OS upgrade?

It's a trap! I don't even know how to answer that question. The answer, of course, is no. But if I say no, isn't that what a cheat would say? :p

When you purchase 1Password 5, you are entitled to free updates for 1Password 5, and you can use it as long as you like, at no additional charge. Typically, new major versions are a paid upgrade. For example, though it is impossible to say for certain regarding something that does not exist, 1Password 6 will likely be a paid upgrade.

Again, you can continue using 1Password 5 at that stage if you wish, but often new operating systems break compatibility in many ways (often simply due to new features or improvements), so 1Password 5 may not work with a new OS version. Again, we can't really make guarantees involving something that doesn't yet exist. Generally compatibility is better on OS X, since it changes less than iOS these days. You can actually run 1Password 3 on Yosemite. It just isn't the best experience.

    Where is your transparency?

On our website: you can see each available version with a price when it is sold by us, or a link to the store where it can be purchased (and there you see its price). However, we only offer pricing for products that exists, not future versions that have not been created. Compatibility and pricing of a theoretical future version does not affect your purchase and use of the current version. But historically we've offer 'upgrade' windows with discounted pricing for a limited time when releasing a new version.

Then I go to https://agilebits.com/store and see 1Password for Mac MUST be purchased from Apple/iTunes if I want to use the iCloud Sync...

Correct. Apple does not allow non-Mac-App-Store apps to use iCloud, so it is not available in the version from the AgileBits Store.

do you see the disconnect and HUGE lack of information being shared?

I do know see which information it is that you believe is lacking. If you could be more specific, I'll be happy to help! For instance, which disconnect are you referring to? And what information do you feel is lacking? If you tell me, I can either direct you to the relevant information, or we can add it to our site if it is not present.

There is no clear comparison of the 2 products and list of limitations/restrictions when I purchase one or the other.

iCloud Sync is the only difference, which is why we include that information on the site.

In your original post you ask for a single link to get 1Password for all of your devices. If you only use a single type of device (Macs, for instance), you only need to purchase 1Password for Mac. However, it sounds like you have multiple devices of different types. Without knowing which ones you have, it is impossible to say which versions of 1Password you will need for all of them and where you can purchase them. Here is a list for reference, though:

1Password for Mac — AgileBits Store and Mac App Store
1Password for iOS — iOS App Store
1Password for Android — Google Play store
1Password for Windows — AgileBits Store

Finally, there is not a single app from any company that can run on both your Mac and iPhone. The apps themselves are separate, and (though Apple owns both) they are only available in separate stores, which is why we cannot provide you with a way to make a single purchase for all of your devices.

1Password for iOS is a free app with an in-app purchase if you wish to unlock the Pro Features, which is priced at 10$, not 50$. 1Password for Mac, however, is 50$. And most Mac apps are definitely not 5$. Whether or not 1Password for Mac is worth 50$ to you is your call, but you can take advantage of the free trial to help you decide!

I hope this helps. Be sure to let us know if you have any other questions! :)
