iPad version always defaults to Favorites

Every time I launch the app on my iPad it defaults to the Favorites view. Why doesn't it remember where I last left off, which for me is usually the Categories view?

  • Hi Michael ( @Michael Shingledecker ),

This was resolved in v5.2. I just tested it on my iPad and it remembers which view I'm in when returning to the home screen. Could you please verify which version of 1Password you have installed?

I'm running 5.4.1 (504104) on multiple iOS devices and it starts on Favorites if I've been out of the app for any length of time. I too would prefer the option to choose Categories especially on iOS

    Hi @CocoD,

That's strange. I'm running 5.4 and I can go as far as closing the app and turning the phone off completely and still have it return to the same view when I next load it. It might be worth trying that too. Completely close 1Password and then reboot the iOS device, see if it helps. Worst case scenario it doesn't but it won't do any harm.

Here is what I have discovered.
    I have latest version.
It seems to be for me anyway the issue of defaulting to the favorite folder happens when 1password is cleared from IOS memory and then re singing in. Other wise it does not happen.
Sign into 1Password and then sign out. Next double click iPad home button and flick (remove from memory) 1Password. Now sign back in to 1Password and see if it defaults to favorites.
I know 1password has to default to somewhere on first sign in.
I just wish it would default to categories because I do not use favorites at all.
I clear my memory often is another reason.

  • Ah, yes, that would do it. That would be working as intended then. We do appreciate the feedback though, and will take it into consideration for the future.

For what it's worth, you may want to check out this article on clearing apps from iOS's memory:

I have 5.4.1. I experience the same thing as kunder describes. This makes no sense to me. Why is it designed to work this way? If I clear the app why would I want it to default to a different screen when launching it? If I want to start from Categories every time I launch the app I should have that option.

  • Thanks for the feedback, Michael. 1Password stores where you left off in memory. If you clear it from memory, either my manually killing it from the task switcher (as kunder was doing), restarting your phone, or occasionally iOS might do this automatically, it will return to the default view which at the moment is favorites. If you are killing the app manually you may want to check out the article I posted for kunder:

We are looking into how we can improve this behavior for the future, but that is the current state of things. Again, we appreciate the suggestion, and our developers are considering their options.

    Thanks!

The iPhone app does not behave this way. Is that your understanding as well?

  • The iPhone app defaults to categories instead of favorites, but it does still have a set default.

For what it's worth, I would prefer that the iPad also default to Categories, like the iPhone. Is that a vote?

For what it's worth, I strongly concur with @hawkmoth's view as I don't use favourites at all.

I have exactly one favorite, only to change the sort order for display my most used Gmail account at the top of the list.

  • Thanks guys. :) Ideally we'd like to improve this such that there isn't a pre-set default that you'd notice. Obviously for any choice that we make under the current structure will leave folks with a default that they don't want.

But at least be consistent between the iPhone and iPad. I think that is rather annoying to have two different standards.

At the risk of flogging a dead horse, I agree with this too.

    Hi Michael and Hawkmoth,

We do appreciate the feedback! And believe me, I'm a big fan of consistency. I'll be sure your thoughts get heard. :)
