I can download the file, but double-clicking the file just opens Safari and nothing installs!

    Hi @hkaplan131,

I'm sorry you're having trouble installing the 1Password extension in Safari! Can you please make sure you're following these steps:

    • Open the following link in Safari: https://agilebits.com/onepassword/extensions
    • Click the big green Install button
    • Double-click on the .safariextz file after it downloads
    • This should open Safari, and a message should appear that asks if you want to install the extension - click Install

If you are not getting the message asking if you want to install the extension, can you please confirm that the file you download has a .safariextz extension? If you restart your Mac and try again, does that make any difference?

If you're still having trouble, please let us know the following details:

    • What exact version of Mac OS X are you running?
    • What exact version of the 1Password app is installed? (From the main 1Password app, go to the menu for 1Password > About 1Password)
    • Are you using the AgileBits Store version or the Mac App Store version of 1Password?
    • What version of Safari are you using?

    Thanks!

    Safari Version 8.0.6 (10600.6.3); System Version: OS X 10.10.3 (14D136);
    Downloaded File - 1Password-4.3.1.safariextz
When I double click the installer, it never brings me to the inquiry window asking if I want to install the extension. It just takes me to the main Safari window showing past sites visited.

    Anymore ideas?

    Howard

P.S. - The extension installed OK on Chrome and Firefox (version 38.0.1) also.

    Hi @hkaplan131,

Given how early on in the installation process this is happening I can only think that either the downloaded extension is damaged or Safari is.

When I double click on the file or drag the extension to the Safari icon in my dock I see the same thing, a new tab opens and the URL is file:///Users/LBT/Downloads/1Password-4.3.1.safariextz If you change the LBT in that path to your shortened username and paste that into a tab does Safari react at all?

If that makes no difference, does Safari behave in the same way for another extension? If Safari is properly installing other extensions it might be worth deleting the copy of 1Password-4.3.1.safariextz that you have, throw in a reboot for good measure and then see if downloading a fresh copy makes any difference.

    Please do keep us updated.

Deleting the .plist file for Safari fixed the issue. I was able to install the Extension. Thanks for trying to help. - Howard

That's great news @hkaplan131, thank you for letting us know how you were able to solve that problem! As littlebobbytables had guessed, it sounds like something was wrong with Safari (specifically the .plist file). I'm glad it turned out to be a relatively simply fix.

Hopefully you're all set now, but if you need anything else, just let us know. :)
