WiFi sync not working because devices not seen on network

I just happened to update 1Password on my MacBook Pro to 5.3.1 Agile Store version so this problem may be related to that. I haven't synced with my devices in a few months. When I tried to do so today, the iPhone 6 running IOS 8.3 is not seeing my MacBook Pro on the network. Nothing has changed with my network and no firewalls exist. I've tried disabling Wifi sync, shutting down the apps, and restarting on both devices. My iPad Air was recently swapped by Apple and I just tried to do a Wifi sync with it but I'm having the same problem. I realize that the iCloud syncing option is much easier, however, my purchases go back to pre App Store days and I can't justify dropping $50 for software again when I'm able to pay the upgrade prices. Loyalty should be rewarded but with the App Store, it's quite the opposite.

  • Hi @Matt223,

Sorry to hear about the difficulty. Since you are using the AgileBits store version of 1Password for Mac Dropbox may be an option for you:

If you'd rather keep going with WiFi, I'd be happy to help you troubleshoot that. I know you indicated that nothing has changed with your network, but there is an easy step we can use to eliminate the network. I'd like to ask you to give this a try, please:

Please let me know if you are able to sync over the Ad Hoc network.

    Thanks.

Have you tried rebooting the router. Also, the article http://www.macissues.com/2015/05/18/fix-your-macs-network-name-getting-2-appended-to-it/ may be useful. It does seem like a network issue.

AdHoc worked. I don't understand this but ever since you've switched over to the App Store, I've had consistent problems with this version of 1Password. You might have high reviews and be in Apple's top list, but I can no longer give this app decent praises. It's highly annoying. I've had the same Airport Extreme Basestation with the same configuration for two years. Absolutely nothing has changed with the infrastructure. The only changes that occur are updates to the various OS' but that is to be expected and certainly cannot be blamed. If it is to blame, then I would say that's a developer/Apple issue that needs to be repaired.

  • Hi @Matt223,

Interesting! That would certainly point to some sort of difficulty on the network side of things (1Password works fine when your network is not in the equation).

I'm not sure I follow. 1Password for iOS has always been sold on the App Store, as that is the only place iOS apps can be sold. That said I'm very sorry to hear you've had such trouble with 1Password, and we'd be happy to help you get that resolved so you can again feel confident.

Could you please launch AirPort Utility and make sure there are no firmware updates for the basestation that haven't been installed yet? It should be running 7.7.3 if it is one of the newer 802.11ac models:

Assuming you are already on the latest version, my next recommendation would be to try restarting all of the devices: the Mac, the iOS device, and the AirPort (Base Station > Restart in AirPort Utility). Sometimes Bonjour gets into a wonky state on these AirPort routers (seemingly an Apple problem), and restarting everything seems to fix it. Once you've got everything restarted please try turning WiFi sync on the Mac off then back on and syncing over your own WiFi network again.

Please let us know how it turns out. :)

Everything was already updated as I stay on top of that. Bonjour must be the issue with at Airport as a restart fixed the problem. As for my comment regarding the App Store, I'm referring to the Mac App Store and not the IOS version. Clearly there is an issue there since the Mac App Store purchased version can use iCloud but those of us that purchased directly are stuck with Wifi or Dropbox (Not gonna happen). Things are working again for now.

That isn't a technical issue, but a political one. Apple only allows CloudKit (iCloud) connections from apps purchased from the Mac App Store.

Things are working again for now.

    Great! Thanks for the update.
