Some questions about 1Password iOS

Hi,

Does anyone know how you can back up the passwords on the iOS version of 1Password? I saw one of the options included of iCloud, if we did backup our passwords to iCloud - wouldn't it put our passwords in risk? I'm using 1Password on my iPhone 5s with iOS Version 8.3.

I'd like to know this because of an issue I'm having with my iPhone, and I'll need to reset my iPhone to factory settings. Before I do factory reset my iPhone, I wanted to make sure all my passwords are somewhere backed up where I can retrieve it once I finish the factory reset of my iPhone.

Thank You. :)

    Hi @ChocolateAndTech ,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with your iPhone - that's never any fun.

We are very confident about storing 1Password data in the cloud, as your data file is encrypted with an exceedingly secure encryption algorithm called AES. Even if someone were to acquire a copy of your 1Password data file, it would be extremely difficult (approaching impossible in a human lifetime) for them to actually gain access to your passwords without your Master Password. In short, we believe it is just as secure as having the data on your laptop. To learn more about cloud data security, have a read through our Knowledgebase article on Cloud Security.

And you can see the thoughts behind our data format's design here.

Also, you can check out our blog for many more articles that go into the nitty gritty math behind what makes 1Password so secure.

First of all, it's great to hear that you are thinking about how to ensure that all your data is secure and properly backed up before you restore your phone. You rock!

Now, I would recommend using iCloud or Dropbox to have an easy off-site copy of your data. (It's also awesome if you use 1Password on more than one device - you can have access to your data everywhere!)

If you're still not keen on using the cloud, that's fine. You can backup your 1Password data using iTunes.

I hope this helps, but if you have any further questions, we're here for you. :)
