ipad accepts multiple master passwords

I changed the master password. Now the iPad app (which is up to date) accepts both the old and the new master passwords. This strikes me as not correct. The iPhone and the Mac will take only the new password. Syncing is done through Dropbox.

Does it keep accepting both passwords?

I believe the way sync works means that the old password works until you use the new one. The new one also works, but as soon as the new one has been used once the old one will no longer work. But this is not an area I know much about, so I could be wrong.

Thanks for chiming in @danco! :+1:

You are right, the old Master Password will still unlock your vault on the other syncing devices (not the one you changed your Master Password on) until you enter the new Master Password. Once you enter the new Master Password on the one of the syncing devices the old Master Password will no longer unlock your vault.

For more information, please refer to our How 1Password syncs changes to your Master Password blogpost.

    Hope that this helps

I guess I wasn't clear in the original posting. The iPad app is continuing to accept both passwords all the time. I can enter either one - at any time - to unlock the app. It is supposed to disable the old password after entering the new one, and it is not doing that. It continues to accept the old password after it is supposed to be disabled. That's why I posted.

  • Hi @juliang,

Could you please let me know which version of 1Password you have installed on each device?

I'm really sorry for the trouble, @juliang. We did have a bug around the time of 1Password 5.1 for Mac where Master Password changes wouldn't sync properly, but we thought we had that squished at this point. I'd like to ask you to create some Diagnostics Reports, one from each of your devices.

    —Mac—
    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/mac.html

    —iOS—
    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/ios.html

Then attach the files to an email to us: support+forum@agilebits.com

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

A short note here with your ticket ID(s) which our friend BitBot will email you once you've sent the Report in will help us to keep an eye out for it. :)

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

    Ticket numbers YQD-75496-222 and SQU-33728-728
Unfortunately, I think I blew it. During lunch I tapped Update All in the App Store app, like I always do, and then too late saw that 1Passwd had an update. So the diagnostic report is from the new copy of the app, which is not demonstrating the problem. I wonder if I had reinstalled the previous version if the problem would have still been there.

    Hi juliang,

Yes, that would explain it. If it happens again, please let us know.
