Keeping 1Password open for extended periods

I set auto-lock for "one hour" in my security settings, but I find that I have to re-enter my Master Password within a matter of a few minutes. Why is 1Password auto-locking in spite of my one hour selection?

  • Hi @PeterLance,

Do you have 1Password > Settings > Security > Lock on Exit enabled?

    Please let me know. :)

I do not have Lock on Exit enabled. (Thank you for mentioning that.) I definitely have it in the "off" position. Also, I have Touch ID turned off.

  • Hi @PeterLance,

Unfortunately, the issue you are seeing is a result of iOS closing the app in the background. 1Password can remain unlocked in memory only until iOS is forced to fully close the app in the background to reclaim its memory block, so that your current apps can use it. How long an app can remain in memory depends on the amount of memory available, and how much memory your active apps require. When 1Password is re-opened after being removed from memory, it will require your Master Password.

If you enable Touch ID or the PIN Code in 1Password's security preferences, your master password is stored in the iOS keychain. This allows the app to unlock without making you enter the master password so often. If your Touch ID fingerprint is verified or you enter the correct PIN Code, your master password is retrieved from the iOS Keychain and your data is decrypted.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. We're always happy to help!
