cannot accomplish a sync with my iPhone from my Mac

I have followed directions for (re-) establishing DropBox as my primary sync resource. However in the Sync with Dropbox page on my iPhone's 1Password, after choosing the appropriate folder/file in Dropbox, I get the message that "Vault Exists; this vault already exists on your iPhone." OK - but how do I get it to SYNC to it????!!!!! Sync using WiFi is equally as frustrating: "Sync Problem: attempted to sync with a different vault than originally configured." The only "vault" that is current and I trust is on my Mac. How do I clear out all the bad links and re-propagate the DropBox agilekeychain?

1Password Version: 5
Extension Version: 5.3.2
OS Version: OSX10.10.4
Sync Type: DropBox or Wifi

    Hi @Richard1,

    Sorry to hear you're experiencing these sync errors. It seems as though you've run into a couple of bugs we have identified in 1Password for iOS, but I believe we can work around them to get your sync working again. It sounds like you're more interested in syncing via Dropbox than Wi-Fi, so we'll focus on that.

    I just have a couple of clarifying questions first, to make sure we understand the situation accurately before we proceed.

    • Do you have Pro Features unlocked on the iPhone?
    • Do you have multiple vaults on the iPhone? If so, are any of them syncing correctly via Dropbox?
    • You said you were (re-)establishing Dropbox sync. Did you have it configured and syncing in the past, but sync was recently disabled somehow? Did you happen to notice what triggered the change?

    Thanks in advance for these answers. We'll sort this out! :)

    Thanks for responding. To answer your questions:

    • Pro Features IS unlocked - but I don't believe I'm using any of those features;
    • It appears there may be multiple vaults - but again - not with any intention to do so;
    • I don't sync very often - but when I do - I ALWAYS have to struggle to make it work. So I've used DropBox - and when it wouldn't work I'd try WiFi. Usually one or the other has worked - but not this time.

    I'm computer proficient - but this has me stumped. The 1Password on my Mac is up to date, and it is currently backed up in DropBox. Neither my iPhone nor iPad have current versions of the vault - and I'd like to not only get everything on the "same page" - but also have it sync on some periodic basis without my having to remember.

    One last thing - I NEVER add sites or new passwords from the iOS devices - I manage 1Password strictly from the Mac.

    Thanks for your help ...

    Thanks a lot for providing these details, @Richard1!

    I believe the Dropbox error you were seeing is related to having multiple vaults, and if you don't mean to have more than one vault, then let's fix that.

    As long as your current vault is on the Mac and in Dropbox, I'd like to recommend you start over with 1Password on your iPhone. Follow these steps to remove and freshly reinstall 1Password on your iPhone.

    Once that's done, go ahead and configure Dropbox sync on the iPhone to point to the .agilekeychain file of your Primary vault, and make sure that Dropbox sync is enabled on the Mac as well, and also pointing to the same .agilekeychain file as your iPhone.

    I look forward to hearing how that goes for you, and we'll be here if you have any other questions along the way! :)

    Thank you; I have deleted and re-installed 1P on both iPhone and iPad from the Dropbox vault. FINAL QUESTION: is there a way to make sure that the iOS devices automatically stay in sync - or do I have to manually perform a sync?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Dick

  • Hi @Richard1,

    None of our sync methods (including Dropbox) require manually initiating the sync anymore. Once you've set syncing up, it'll do it automatically.

    Thanks!

    Ben
