Cannot sync iPad & iPhone with MBP on wifi or iCloud

Hi, I cannot sync my iPad & iPhone with MBP on wifi or iCloud. I was able to use wifi in the past but it no longer works.
My phone shows I have pro features my iPad wants me to pay. For geographical reasons the app was purchased on a lesser used Apple ID and it no longer appears possible to switch IDs on either IOS machine.

I've allowed the app in fire wall, I've disconnected Little Snitch and shut off the fire wall, nothing works.

On my iPad the MBP fails to show and refresh has no effect, on the iPhone the MBP occasionally shows but results in an error message then it fails to show

    Please tell us:

I'm afraid the in-app purchase of the pro features can't be shared between different Apple IDs. That is an Apple restriction.

@Jethro: Wi-Fi Sync depends entirely on the wireless network (and the devices you're syncing) being able to transmit Bonjour traffic, so any router or firewall configuration issues can interfere. If your devices cannot "see" each other, they just won't be able to connect and transfer your data. Please try the following:

    1. Reset device Wi-Fi (both devices)
    2. Restart OS (both devices)
    3. Soft-reset router (if possible)
    4. Hard-reset router
    5. Reset sync settings (both devices)
    6. Forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect
    7. Disable software firewall
    8. Disable security software
    9. If security or firewall software turns out to be the issue, turning it back on and setting an exception for the traffic may work, provided that is an option.*

*You'll need to open UDP port 5353 for both outbound and inbound traffic, which is the port that Bonjour (Apple's zeroconfig implementation) uses for connecting available services on the network.

Keep in mind that you may need to set this up in your router as well if it is blocking traffic, but generally that won't be the case.

As far as Pro Features, unfortunately Apple does not allow (as far as I'm aware) purchases to be transferred from one Apple ID or region to another, but you can certainly contact them directly with any questions you have. This is not unique to 1Password. Otherwise, you'll simply have to purchase the Pro upgrade on the other Apple ID as well if you want those features on each device. Generally it's just simpler to use a single Apple ID and region and stick with it in order to avoid these headaches in the first place though. I feel your pain. :(

Please let me know what you find. I look forward to hearing back from you! :)

    Hi Stephen_C & brenty,

Many thanks for the feed back. Some very useful info there which I've stored for future reference.

    The requested info is: 1Password 5 Version 5.3.2 (532001) / IOS version 5.4.3

Respectfully the Apple restriction is some thing that needs to be worked on by Agile and other App providers.

The reason for the two IDs originates from Apple's restrictions relating to geographical locations. When looking for certain apps I simply couldn't get my UK based ID to work properly for a Middle East and the same the other way around. It was some time back so the exact details are a little hazy. The result was that I was forced to open a second account. Believe me with all the hoop jumping one has to do with Apple, two accounts is the last thing I wanted.

Now onto the problem in hand. Having left every thing alone for several days I came back and tried the sync again and it worked.
I checked my firewall settings etc which were correct but apart from that it required no action on my part what so ever. Perhaps the act of cycling the firewall was the key.

The one thing that I did notice was that this time both devices, (iPhone and IPad) came up with different passwords. The iPad matched the MBP and was an auto connect but the iPhone had a different password & I had to manually enter the MBP provided password.

Any how the the end result was total success. So it would appear that Pro features can be shared.

I can't thank you gents enough for taking time out to look into this for me.

    Hi @Jethro,

I'm so glad to hear that you're all sorted out - thanks for letting us know!

Believe me, as an avid Apple user, I wish that Apple was a bit more flexible with Apple ID restrictions too! If this is something that you think seriously about, I'd recommend letting Apple know. The more they hear from users, the more likely they are to consider a change. :)

I'll certainly complete feed back to them however given the many far more serious problems that they had reported to them by large user groups, such as the wifi debacle, I seriously doubt they'd even look at it.

    Thanks again for the support
