My Gripe about 1Password
It is a shame That Agilebits couldn't back port features/bug fixes into older releases. Couldn't 1Password 5 have been made to work with iOS 7 or is there something specific to iOS platform. There were some complaints about 1Password 4.5 that was never fixed in that version, like the passcode obscuring a portion of text above it.
The fix was to upgrade to iPassword 5 which is unsupported in iOS 7.

Hi @wkleem,
By supporting iOS 8 only, we chose the route that best fits the majority of our customers. We want to create the best possible experience for the bulk of our users.
It's not simple to support multiple versions of iOS. New APIs allow us to make great improvements to 1Password, and add awesome new features. One example: we use CloudKit for iCloud sync in 1Password 5, and CloudKit is not available on iOS 7. (Thanks to CloudKit, syncing your data via iCloud in 1Password 5 is much faster, smarter and more reliable than before.)
There's almost no barrier to get iOS updates these days. They're free and easy to install. iOS 8 supports quite a large range of devices (nearly all devices that iOS 7 supported). If you have a compatible device, we definitely recommend upgrading to the latest version of iOS 8. We are sorry if you have an older device that Apple decided not to support iOS 8 on, but even for Apple it's not possible to continue supporting the oldest devices with the latest and greatest software.
Not only can we make a better app by using newer APIs, but we can make a better app by not spending significant resources from our small team coding and testing support for old versions of iOS. Unfortunately yes, a small number of users will be left to use an older version. We believe it's worth the trade-off though, so we can keep moving forward and make 1Password the very best it can be.

Thanks for your thoughtful reply @JazperP. I am looking forward to iOS 9 and 1Password on it.
My complaint is related to the fact that each new iOS version brings complaints of slowdowns which is why I hoped that I could 1P 5 for iOS on an unsupported phone.
I find it hard to know the dependencies for the devices nowadays. I would prefer to keep things as simple as possible. There are just too many features on modern devices. Most of which I'll never use.

I have only belatedly noticed that I addressed the wrong person! "Jazper" instead of "Jasper".
Thanks for your thoughtful reply @ "JazperP". I am looking forward to iOS 9 and 1Password on it.

Hi @wkleem,
It seems we don't have a JazperP in our database so I can say with confidence that there isn't a confused user out there wondering what thoughtful reply they'd issued
You're right, older devices have often suffered at the hands of the newest iOS. It's tricky. Apple want to add X, Y & Z but that hits the older hardware. On some level they hope to encourage you to newer hardware (they are a business after all) but still while supporting their loyal users. I'll say this though, I'll take Apple's idea of support any day of the week over all the other phone manufacturers I've ever experienced.
I think you might like iOS 9 where I believe they're trying to improve performance for older models based on what I've read. It might breathe some new life into older hardware and keep it relevant

I'm glad to hear your comments littlebobbytables about ios9 as I'm content with my 4s and have no desire to upgrade to a newer phone.

I'm happy with my iPhone 5s. Less so with my iPhone 4 (iOS 7) which was donated to me.

Hi @Palladium and @wkleem,
I have an 'older' iPad as well, and I'm hoping that iOS 9 will be an improvement over iOS 8! I haven't quite been brave enough to install the beta there yet, but I remain cautiously optimistic. I guess we'll all see this fall! :)

Hi
I would just wait six months for other users to report bugs before installing any new OS. Same for Windows 10. However, in the case of Windows Phone 8/8.1, it actually took 6 months before my Lumia saw the updates!

Hi @wkleem,
I'm not sure I'll be able to be as patient as you! You're right, software is definitely a process, and the initial version of an operating system (or an app) can almost always use a few tweaks. But I'm the type of person who likes to get access to the new goodies as soon as possible! While I'm not quite brave enough for the OS betas, I'll likely be hitting that 'Update' button on Day 1. It's also helpful from a technical support standpoint, I find it almost necessary to ensure I have the latest available OS, to better understand what a majority of our users are seeing. :)

Hi @wkleem,
I understand your frustration. Unfortunately, as Jasper mentioned above, supporting multiple versions of the app is no simple matter, and because 1Password 5 was released as an update to 1Password 4 (instead of a separate app), there's no way to go back and make changes to the previous version. We released 1Password 5 as an update to 1Password 4 to ensure that existing users would have access to a free upgrade (and to make it super-easy for existing users to get access to the fixes that we included in the new version).
I know this makes it a bit tricky if you're one of those people who chooses not to immediately upgrade to the brand-new operating systems, but I hope these posts have helped you understand why we've made the choices we have when updating 1Password.
