I changed iPhones and all data in 1Password was wiped out on both phones and in iTunes (I assume)

Hi there, I just changed iPhones (went from one 5S to another 5S). I have 1Password Version 5.4.3 and on the new phone I'm running iOS version 8.1.3 and on the old phone I'm running iOS version 8.3. I sync my iphone to iTunes on my laptop - no other devices. All the contents of 1P were lost on all 3 devices, I THINK. I've only ever had 1 vault.

When I go to open the app on either phone, I get "Welcome to 1Password" and it asks me to create a new vault, or sync to an existing vault instead of asking me to sign in (which it was doing fine yesterday prior to the switchover). I don't know where my existing vault is if I even have one anymore, or how to sync it. I was not syncing to the Cloud.

Is there any way to find the App intact with the data? I saw another posting where there were diagrams of the 1Password icon, and I have version D.

Anything you can do to help is much appreciated. I'm not particularly techno saavy which isn't helpful...

Many thanks,

Nancy

Do you still have the original 5S? If you do, you could set up syncing to Dropbox there, then do the same on your second device and have the data downloaded to it.

@nancy_wright - Unless you also have a desktop version, which automatically makes backups regularly on your local hard disk, I would advise you to make a backup for the data on your iPhone on a regular basis. Dropbox isn't really considered a backup (although I can't explain why not). But you could manually back up your data from time to time on iTunes. Take a look at the article on Creating and restoring 1Password backups in iTunes.

I will say that continuing to sync to Dropbox or iCloud, even if you have just the one iPhone, will take care of any changes you make automatically and simplify your life considerably the next time you change devices. Or add a new one.

Thanks I did the sync as you suggested with Dropbox and it worked. I'll continue to back up on my laptop as well - can't hurt!! Really appreciate the help thank you!

  • Excellent. Thanks for the update! I'm glad to hear hawkmoth's suggestion was helpful. :) If there is anything else we can do, please don't hesitate to contact us.
