iPad forces master password when switching away

When using 1Password, especially using as a browswer--but even using Safari or Chrome, and I need to switch to another app -- iPad locks 1Password . This forces me to re-enter the master password when I wish to return even if only a second or two later. This does not happen with the iPhone version of 1Password. For just this discussion I needed to go back to 1Password several times for information such as the 1Password Version and then for the iOs version -- each time it locked. The result is constantly typing in the master password repeatedly thus exposing that password repeatedly. Is this the way it is designed for the iPad? Why is this not happening on the iPhone version?

Could you check your Settings > Security and tell us what those are? How do the compare to the iPhone where you aren't having this trouble? Does either device include TouchID?

@rjp49: Indeed. It sounds like you just need to tweak your Security/Lock settings in 1Password to get the results you want. For instance, if you turn off Lock on Exit, 1Password won't lock immediately upon switching to another app. Just be sure you use the Auto-lock timer to keep 1Password secure if you forget to lock it manually. Cheers! :)

    Thank you both!
hawkmoth, the iPhone has touchID but was not set for it in 1Password security. It is now.
brenty, that was the answer I was hoping to get. It was set to Lock on Exit. It is now changed and the Auto-lock timer is set to 10 minutes.
The two of you have unlocked this slightly annoying mystery. Again, thank you!

@rjp49: Oh, you're going to love it! The downside is that if you have any other devices without Touch ID you will quickly find them to be tiresome.

You're totally welcome! I think each of us is a little bit different in how we use our devices and 1Password, so finding the 'sweet spot' is key. It sounds like you've got it, but don't hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions. We're always here to help! :)

As an owner of one with TouchID and one without, I would certainly agree! But I'm not swapping yet anyway. Entering my 1Password master password frequently on my iPad Air (not 2) keeps me from forgetting it. Or so I keep telling myself.

@hawkmoth: I'm going to have to resort to this rationalization too, I think. Fantastic tip! :+1:

@brenty - I don't even have a PIN set on my iPad. True.

Touché. I have to use a passcode. If I ever turned it off, that would be the day I'd leave it at a restaurant or something... :dizzy:

@brenty - I wasn't being clear, I see. I do have a passcode set for my iPad, just not for 1Password. Every time I access 1Password, I have to enter my master password.

  • Ah! Well that is quite a different story then. :)
