How do I gift the pro version?

I want to gift the 1password pro version to my girlfriend, but I think I can only gift her the demo version. I don't want her to get the demo version from me only to realize she needs to upgrade from within the app. I want to simply gift her the paid pro version without her having to pay anything herself. Can you please explain to me how to do that?

Since the advanced Pro features must be acquired by an in-app purchase, there isn't anyway I know of that you could make a gift of those features. I would think that you could give her an iTunes gift card to use for that purchase, though. I will add, though, that I've never used an iTunes card for that purpose myself.

I should point out that there is no need for you to give her 1Password as a gift in its basic form. It's free to download and use in that configuration.

Edit: Google told me to read this thread in the Apple community forums to learn how to use an iTunes gift card to make in-app purchases.

  • If you would like to gift the Pro features of the iOS app an iTunes gift card with the appropriate amount on it would be the best (only?) way to do so. As hawkmoth mentioned the base 1Password for iOS app is completely free, so your girlfriend should be able to download that without any charge here:

Thanks for the assist, hawkmoth! :)

I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.

Thank you guys for the quick response. Ty hawkmoth, ty bwoodruff. I guess I will buy her the gift card... too bad though. It would be so much cooler if there was a pro version to be directly downloaded. It just feels nicer to gift her the app instantaneously instead of giving her the gift card, then explaining to her to download the demo first, the to go to upgrade options... blahblahblah.

well, well... can't have everything I guess ;)

    Thank you guys again. Bye.

  • You're very welcome. Hopefully in the future Apple will make it possible to gift in-app purchases directly. :)

    Thanks!

Not when Apple is involved. They set their own rules. Still, I prefer them to the other options. They don't allow Family Sharing for in-app purchases either. Or merging otherwise connected AppleIDs. Or... Or... (Never mind.)

There's a lot they get exactly right, but should you happen to find the edges, they can be very sharp indeed!
