Why do I have to reenter the 1P iOS password to unlock just because the login wasn't accepted?
1Password for iOS requires a password to be unlocked (no TouchID) after restart, as per Apple/iOS policy. However, if, when I use the share menu to insert a login / password combination for a web page viewed in Safari for iOS, the web site rejects the login/password combination for whatever reason, 1P will again require me to type the password to unlock it instead of letting me use TouchID. This doesn't make sense to me. Is this a bug?

@odysseus: Sorry for the confusion! Since iOS extensions are not proper apps themselves (they just spawn from the main app), you will be prompted for the Master Password when using the 1Password extension until you unlock the main 1Password app using the Master Password. I hope this helps! :)

Except that your message implies an impossibility, and this problem has apparently been remedied a mere 5 days later in 1P 5.5.

Hi @odysseus,
It just so happens that we've got a handy blog post to explain 1Password's locking mechanism and how it has bee significantly improved in the 5.5 update. I hope this helps to clear things up!

@odysseus: I know! Isn't it great? If I had meant 'impossible', I would have just said so, but few things are. Obviously I wasn't going to say "we found a way" only to then tell you that it won't work for you without being in the beta. That would have just been a tease, since there's no way to know how long approval will take. You're welcome! ;)

Fantastic work on the lock service in 5.5. The one thing that makes me unhappy—and it makes me very unhappy—is the loss of the ability to instantly clear my master password from the iOS keychain by hitting Cancel. Y'all explained the rationale to me on Twitter and I totally get it. You made a sound decision, and I accept 100% that my preferred behavior for Cancel is a minority view.
I just wish that there were a security setting giving me the choice of whether or not Cancel clears the keychain.

@benfdc: Thanks for bringing this up! I am of two minds here: on the one hand, it is a pain to have inadvertently cleared the Master Password from the Keychain without meaning to (which I think is the majority view), but on the other hand it would be nice to be able to choose to clear it on occasion, as you pointed out. I think there's room for improvement here, and we're not finished yet. :)

@brenty Frankly, I think it would have been better to write, "We're working on this."
@odysseus: You may think so, but I couldn't possibly comment. :yum:

I had not noticed this already myself, and it was extremely thoughtful of you to flag it for me. Thanks so much.
That said, I find the behavior on my iPhone 6 to be inconsistent. Sometimes it works as you describe. Sometimes pushing the home button makes the Touch ID prompt go away and then reappear a quarter-second later.
It's really tricky. I'm not sure, but it seems as though If I click the Home button really quickly the Touch ID prompt bounces right back. If I hold the Home button just a bit and then release it the Touch ID prompt will be dismissed. But if I hold it more than just a bit the app will open. If that is what is happening, it requires too much precision to be reliable IMO.
And the trick NEVER seems to work in situations where the app shows a password entry area with a fingerprint button below.
A fine concept, but the execution needs some work.

@benfdc: You're very welcome! I'm only sorry I didn't follow up sooner.

Now that is confounding. Can you make any sense of what's different when the Touch ID prompt reappears? I haven't actually seen that happen myself, but I'll keep a closer eye on it now that you bring it up...

Actually I was just able to reproduce this, but like you I'm not able to do so consistently. The very first time after you'd mentioned it, I was able to dismiss the Touch ID prompt by quickly pressing the Home button, and then it reappeared. However, attempting to do this again gave the expected result: Touch ID was disabled completely.
And the trick NEVER seems to work in situations where the app shows a password entry area with a fingerprint button below.
Could you elaborate? Which trick are you referring to here? I'm starting to get confused.

Indeed. It's tricky because strictly speaking there is very little we can actually do with Touch ID, and behaviour will continue to change with iOS updates. But I'll see if I can make sense of this particular wrinkle, and see what we can do here. Thanks so much for your help! :)

I can't for the life of me figure out how to unsubscribe from this discussion. Can anyone help?

@odysseus - To the best of my knowledge, there isn't a way to unsubscribe for a particular discussion. I have the same issue with a very long thread that no longer interests me. You can change your general notification preferences in you forum profile. Maybe there is a combination there that will be more to your liking. Perhaps changing the options from getting email notifications to having them only appear when you log in to the forums would suit you better.

@odysseus Sorry for the continued emailing. We didn't mean to fill up your inbox. You can change your notification preferences by clicking the link for your profile, clicking the person icon in the top right, and selecting Edit Profile. From there, click Notification Preferences in the left sidebar. You can simply disable email notifications for

and you should be set! If we respond to you, we'll mention your name so you won't need to worry about not getting an email since that's a different setting. Hope that helps. :)0 -
Notifications should be granular on a per-forum basis, as is true for other forums.
