Sync Secondary Vault over WiFi on iOS

My primary vault is being synced over Dropbox. I am trying to sync a secondary vault to iOS over WiFI. When configuring sync for my secondary vault on iOS the only option provided is my dropbox account.

Is it possible to sync multiple vaults on iOS using different sync services?

@_pete: Wi-Fi Sync is completely separate from iCloud/Dropbox/Folder Sync settings. That's why it's on a separate tab in 1Password for Mac Preferences. When you use Wi-Fi Sync (on it's own or in addition to one of the other options, it's completely up to you), it syncs the vaults you have selected in Prefereces > Wi-Fi Server:

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions! :)

    Thanks @brenly

I have already configured the mac app, the problem I'm having is on iOS.

When I got to "Vaults" > "Sync Additional Vaults", the only option provided is Dropbox. It appears to be impossible to sync a single vault from the Wi-Fi server without swapping all vaults over to Wi-Fi sync.

  • Hello @_pete,

There are a few restrictions it seems, some of which I've just learnt about as once you set up Wi-Fi Sync you don't tend to much about with it much.

One to be aware of right from the start is that you can't sync just one secondary vault via Wi-Fi. Support for syncing secondary vaults via Wi-Fi was bolted on top of the previous Wi-Fi Sync which was for the primary vault only and as a result the primary vault must always be synced via Wi-Fi and then you can add as many secondary vaults as you wish but the primary vault must be one of the vaults being synchronised.

The next restriction is you can't switch between sync methods like you can the cloud based services. So what we need to do is get a copy of the correct/current vault on your Mac, remove the vault from your 1Password for iOS and then 1Password for iOS will pull the secondary vault from your Mac via Wi-Fi automatically based on the setup on the Mac side. The restriction applies both ways, you cannot select Wi-Fi Sync as an option for an existing secondary vault in 1Password for iOS and nor can you switch from Wi-Fi Sync to another method in 1Password for iOS, even if you disable Wi-Fi sync on the Mac side. It will require the removal of the vault and re-adding it. I believe it all comes down to vault UUIDs and the requirement that they match for Wi-Fi Sync while that isn't the case when you sync via cloud services.

So we can help you get it set up, it's just there is the potential for a bit of fiddling to get there. The secondary vault in question, is there a complete vault on your Mac? If there is, the removal of that vault on your iOS device following by closing the app and relaunching should be all you need to do to have the Mac push a copy over Wi-Fi. If there isn't a complete copy of the vault on the Mac then that's where the fiddly bit comes in. Were you syncing the vault another way before or is the vault only on your iOS device? It would also prove useful to know if you're trying to sync over Wi-Fi because of an explicit desire to keep this vault out of cloud services as that way we'll know not to recommend that. Once we have a bit of a better understanding we'll help you through it all
