iOS 9 Safari extensions, any use?

I was wondering with iOS 9 just around the corner and support for Safari extensions if this new feature would be of any use for 1Password?

I initially thought this feature was exclusively for adding content\ad blocker to Safari but i've seen it mentioned as a more general "Safari extensions" feature which makes me wonder if devs can develop other types of extensions for Safari, like for instance Password Managers?

So I suppose what i'm asking is would Safari extensions be of any use to 1Password in a future release? Would it allow for tighter integration with Safari and 1Password so that the share sheet is no longer needed?

  • Hi @reck,

The 1Password icon in your share sheet is a Safari extension. :) Extensions have been available since iOS 8.

It is possible that tighter integration will be available in the future, but I don't have anything to announce at this point.

    Thanks!

Ah ok. So the only new thing in iOS 9 is the ad-blocker extension?

  • It does appear that is the big change, yes.
