Restored encrypted backup to new iPhone - 1password vault not restored
I had to get a replacement iPhone and before doing so did a full iTunes encrypted backup. Once I got the new phone I restored the backup and to my surprise my password vault in 1password was not restored (needed to setup a new vault). I know that backups can be made inside 1password but nowhere in the documentation did I read that a vault is not included in an itunes backup. Based on that I thought there would be no issue using the itunes backup/restore. I have now lost a lot of ids/passwords. Any suggestions other than I should have done a 1password backup (since did not see that was required)?

Hello @jm24,
Actually your original belief is correct, an iTunes backup of an iOS device should include your vault and restoring the backup should restore your vault. Our backup feature in 1Password for iOS is independent of this and shouldn't be required.
You'll notice there were a good couple of should and shouldn't in there.
The first thing to try is restoring the same backup, assuming you:
- Still have the full backup from the device swap
- That you haven't used your new iPhone enough that restoring the backup would mean a loss of data.
The reason I suggest this is we've found restoring an iOS backup can be glitchy and some people have found a second restore does correctly restore the vault. In other words it was present in the backup but the first restore failed to restore everything.
If that doesn't work then this thread will help you extract your vault from the backup and allow you to return it to your iOS device. It does assume you have access to a Mac though so hopefully that is something you either have or a friend can assist you with.
Hopefully one or the other will return your vault to you but please do let us know how you get along.

Thanks for the reply and WHEW!!!! I restored the same exact backup as I did the first time but this time my vault was restored. I quickly made a backup and offloaded it, then did a wifi sync with my desktop 1Password. I am now restoring my most recent backup (the one I restored to get the vault was a few days old) and once done will import the vault backup. That was an odd one.
I own iExplorer and used it to go through the backups including the one I originally restored but did not see the data files shown in the thread referenced in your post. I know iOS 8.4 had changes as to what files can be accessed using iExplorer-type tools and not sure if that may be why. Anyhow, looks like I got my data back so am a very, very, very happy guy!!!
Thanks again
