Dropbox sync issue over multiple devices, first seen in iOS

Hi,
I first started noticing that all of my iOS devices were having a sync issue with Dropbox "Failed to list remote data folder in Dropbox". I searched discussion boards and tried a few things, but then noticed that the 1password.agilekeychain file on my dropbox behaves very strangely. It never is stable and constantly updates. I have 6 macs that run 1password as well as 7 iOS devices. When I look inside the keychain folder, there is constant activity with very similar file names constantly being added with the end of the files being slightly different in the "default/data" subfolder. They are all "... conflicted copy 2015.xx.xx (xx).1password files that keep cramming in there. It seems as if there is a "battle" between my computers and they are all generating these conflicted keys all over the place, and that is causing some kind of jam in my iOS devices.

How should I remove this? I have the latest versions installed on my computers and iOS devices. On my Macs, I have version 5.3.2 and running OS X 10.10.5 (Yosemite). On my iOS devices I have version 5.5 and have iOS 8.4.1.

  • Hi @Chris_M,

Sorry to hear about the Dropbox sync trouble you're having. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this fairly quickly.
The first thing I would recommend doing is making a backup of each of your devices:
    iOS: https://support.1password.com/ios-itunes-backups/
Mac: https://support.1password.com/backup-faq/mac.html (use the 'backup now' button)

What we do next will depend a bit on the state of your data. Do you have one device that has the most up to date version of all of your data, or is there a mismatch of updates across a number of devices?

    Please let me know.

    Ben

As I researched this further, it seems that this is some kind of disastrous circuit created by combination of Dropbox and 1Password. Somehow a number of my password entries have conflicted copies in Dropbox, and each time any of my machines sync'ed, a new "conflicted copy" would be generated in Dropbox.

I chose to use the database on 1 particular machine to start over with a new vault, by using the export function followed by import. I am slowly now propagating this across my other machines. This seems to have removed the "conflicted copy" phenomenon in Dropbox.

  • Thanks for the update, Chris. That was going to be, basically, what I was going to suggest. Again, my apologies for the trouble.

    Ben
