What is the sort order Categories?

OK, I give up. I like the new 1P app for iOS, but what is the sort order for Categories? See list here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/53682537/List.jpg

Why not simply list the categories in alphabetical order so that one can quickly jump to the category of interest rather than having to scan down the entire list? Or maybe allow the user to arrange the categories in preferred order? The current sequence seems random ...

  • Hi @pomme4moi,

The ordering is meant to be based on typical usage. Three out of the four top entries are all related to the categories that you can fill on a web page (Login, Credit Card & Identity items) although I can't explain the inclusion of Secure Notes there. The thought is you'll be interacting with those the most. After that I couldn't say.

Now the ordering is adjustable in 1Password for Mac but it isn't carried over to 1Password for iOS and currently you can't alter the ordering in 1Password for iOS either. So I can see what that would seem a mixture of odd and frustrating. Now I actually can't see a report about this so I think you're the first to mention it, at least that I've come across anyway. So I'll create the request now based on your post

If you are going to implement alphabetical sort order it must be an optional feature. I have 1Password on my iPad, Android phone and on Windows. On the iPad I run everything in Swedish while the other two platforms are in English. I want the categories to be displayed in the same order across the platforms no matter what language I use. If you are going to change this it must allow full customization.

  • Greetings @macke,

The request I created was for customisable ordering, my preference is it is left up to the user and ideally synchronises. This would be independent of language.

    Hi @littlebobbytables, @bwoodruff

It seems that there already is an inconsistency in terms of how the categories are presented between iOS and Android versions. In iOS they are "sorted" as in your previous post but in the Android version they are sorted alphabetically (which means that "Bank Accounts" is at the top)... Please present them at least in the same order. ;) A think a quick fix would be to sort them the same way as in iOS, but even better is of course if you enable the user to sort them in a custom order with the default order as in iOS. :)

  • Thanks for the vote, @macke. :)

When I click on "+" to add a new item, the list of select-from categories also appears to be in some random order. Can you put the select-from list in alphabetical order when you fix the more general Categories sort mentioned in the previous posts? Thx

  • Hi @pomme4moi,

We have made some changes here already, but I'm not aware of any plans for further changes to the list of categories. At present the most common categories are listed first (Logins, Secure Notes, Identities, etc) and then the rest are listed alphabetically.

    Thanks!

    Ben

I guess i missed the recent changes. Is it now possible to customize Categories order on iOS?

  • It is not. We do have a feature request open for that (OPI-3065), but there has not been any movement on it at this point.
