3rd Party Keyboard Doesn't Work (iOS 9)

This problem has been an issue since iOS 8. I thought it'd be fixed with the new app update but apparently not.

I have two keyboards enabled on my phone - SwiftKey (3rd party) and iOS built-in Chinese Keyboard. When the app prompts for Master Password I do get the default iOS keyboard (English - U.S.) to type with (even though it's disabled in Settings). However, inside the app, when I need to type something in, the only keyboard that is available to use is now the iOS built-in Chinese Keyboard, both SwiftKey AND the built-in default keyboard (English - U.S.) are not available.

I then tried removing the iOS built-in Chinese Keyboard, with ONLY SwiftKey enabled as a keyboard. Now in both Master Password prompt AND inside the app I get the iOS built-in default keyboard (English - U.S.) though SwiftKey is still unavailable and not an option.

It seems like 3rd party keyboards are not supported in 1Password while lots of other apps do support them.

IF there is a built-in keyboard enabled, 1Password will only pop that keyboard for use even though it's not the default keyboard (English - U.S.).
IF there is NOT a built-in keyboard enabled (only 3rd Party keyboard), 1Passowrd will then bring up the default keyboard (English - U.S.) for use even though it's not enabled.

Please let me know if there is a solution to this. I would like to use the app having a 3rd party keyboard and a non-English iOS built-in keyboard enabled. Currently 1Password is unusable with this setup.

Running iOS 9.0 on iPhone 5S.

Thanks!

    Bump, anyone please?

  • Hi @aznbmoney,

Sorry for the delayed reply. We've been swamped since the iOS 9 release. There is a setting in 1Password > Settings > Advanced to Allow Custom Keyboards. This setting is disabled by default, as it opens up your data to those keyboards. While Apple has made efforts to prevent 3rd party keyboards from doing anything super nefarious, we'd still recommend caution.

iOS does not allow custom keyboards within password fields. This is a restriction at the OS level, and not something we have control over.

    Thanks!

    Ben
