I don't understand how you can be signed into the same apple ID on both devices?

I just went through a huge riga-ma-ro with apple support to sort out that mess. Basically Nothing will work (e.g. family sharing , icloud backup, sync your contacts and calandars, etc.) unless each iPhone is signed into their own apple IDs and then one phone sets up the family sharing and invites the other ID to join. Then EVERY thing works. Except 1Password which states as the 7th requirement that both phones have to be logged into the icloud with the same ID. It totally goes against everything that is apple iCloud. Please help me understand this?

  • Hi @al_laberge,

The stated requirement is accurate. I'm sorry to hear you've had difficulty with that setup, but that is actually how iCloud is intended to work (one ID per person). iCloud does not actually offer the ability to share data between two different IDs for apps like 1Password.

Obviously the best solution, not just for 1Password, but for all of your future Apple related needs, would be to get this issue properly sorted out so you can actually use the same Apple ID on multiple devices (as it is intended to work). But forgoing that you may want to look into one of our other ways of syncing -- Dropbox or WiFi:

    Thanks.

    Hi Ben,

Thank you for your quick response.

I believe I understand. 1Password is not meant for sharing as I was attempting to do. I was trying to sync it across two phones thus my statement that apple iCloud (family sharing) does not work with the same ID on 2 different devices as each device(person) in that scenario must have their Own ID. It now is clear to me that iPassword is designed to sync to multiple phones only in the situation where a single person has 2 or more devices. I would have no problem with WIFI, but Drop box is more passwords, and that is the LAST thing the wife and I need. We are literately overwhelmed with userids and passwords. Can I assume 1Password won't sync between 2 IDs no matter what method of syncing? I will wait to hear back from you on this, Maybe I'll have to settle for an encrypted file. No functionality, but meets our basic need of one password....

Professional help is definitely the way to go. Appreciated greatly.

    Hi @al_laberge,

I do apologize for the confusion here, and I'll do what I can to clear things up.

1Password is not meant for sharing as I was attempting to do. I was trying to sync it across two phones thus my statement that apple iCloud (family sharing) does not work with the same ID on 2 different devices as each device(person) in that scenario must have their Own ID.

Your 1Password data can definitely sync across multiple devices. You can use Dropbox or Wi-Fi Sync to do so (as Ben suggested above). Unfortunately, iCloud sync is tied to your Apple ID. Each Apple ID is allocated a bit of space somewhere 'in the cloud' to store various packets of data. At this time, Apple has not provided a way for us to share your packet of 1Password data from your Apple ID to another Apple ID. Basically, Family Sharing does not extend to your iCloud storage space. (Although, I can see that having a big database in iCloud with all of your family's shared information could be extremely useful!)

I would have no problem with WIFI, but Drop box is more passwords, and that is the LAST thing the wife and I need. We are literately overwhelmed with userids and passwords.

I hope that the linked instructions above will help you get set up with Wi-Fi sync. It should help to solve this conundrum for you. Believe me, I completely understand the overwhelmed feeling of too many passwords - that's why we created 1Password after all! If you'd like a bit more detailed instruction on setting up Wi-Fi sync, please let us know, we'd be happy to walk you through the process.

Thanks Megan, I anticipate reporting success on this setup when I return home next week.
