Crashing problems with 1Password 3.7.2 in iOS9

Hi, after losing the ability to generate passwords in iOS 8 (thanks for bringing back that function, btw), 1Password 3.7.2 keeps crashing every time I back out of a Login, Note or Password. I enter one of these to change a field, but when I press the back button in the top left corner 1Password always crashes and sends me back to the home screen. When I tap on the 1Password app button again, a notification comes up "1Password Unexpectedly quit - Would you like to send an anonymous report so we can fix the problem?" Fortunately, so far it has managed to retain the changed information I had input, but I fear it's only a matter of time before it doesn't.
I am using an 1Phone 6.

    Hi @ozkravin

Sorry that 1Password 3.7.2 is crashing for you. Did you know that we have a much newer version of 1Password (6.0.1) out? I'd suggest to upgrade to this version as it not only brings more stability but also takes advantage of the latest iOS features. And additionally the basic functionality of 1Password 6 is free.

Let me know if you'd like to upgrade and you need help to get your data moved over to 1Password 6.

Thanks Winnie. I had considered it, but then do I need to upgrade my Mac & iPad version as well? I had a look online but the cost seemed quite high compared to what I originally paid.

  • Hi @ozkravin,

As Winnie mentioned 1Password 6 for iOS is free -- so if you have iOS 9 on both your iPhone and iPad you can upgrade those for free. There is an in-app purchase available for Pro features, if you want those, that you can read more about here:
    https://support.1password.com/guides/ios/pro-features.html

If you use the same Apple ID on both the iPhone and iPad a single purchase of the Pro features will enable access on both.

As for your Mac -- I didn't find any licenses purchased from us under your email address that you have registered here on the forums. If you purchased from the Mac App Store then you can already use the latest version of the Mac application as long as your Mac meets the minimum requirements. If you purchased from us, please drop us an email to support+forums@agilebits.com with a link to this thread and the email address you used to purchase and we'll see what you currently have and what upgrade if any may make sense.

    Thanks!

    Ben

Thanks Ben. I don't believe the Mac App Store was around when I first purchased 1Password for Mac. I have found my key so I shall email.

I use 1Password 3.7.2 on my iphone 6P iOS 9.01. I have downloaded version 6.x and trying to migrate my data from 3.x to 6.x. Unfortunately, when I choose option for 'Sync existing vault' on the same device . Import from version 3 > but when I open version 3, I do not see a message asking me 'if you want to move your items to version 4'. I trie this several times.

    Please help!!

  • Hi @Aziz,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. Please try following these instructions:

I am also having the same crash problem as described with version 3.7.2 when running on ios 9.01. It's very frustrating.

Yes I know there's a newer version for iOS available, but I need the ability to sync to my mac via wi-fi (not through the cloud) and that's not available in the new version without also upgrading my mac OS system and the mac 1password app. I am not willing/able to upgrade my mac OS right now for other reasons, so I need to be able to continue to use 1password 3.7.2. Please help!
    Thanks!

I too have this crash issue on my 9.0.2 upgrade which I just applied. I've to a mix of 10.9 and 10.10 systems using 1password and syncing via Dropbox. Doing an across the board upgrade of everything is going to prove quite challenging for me.

    On iOS, I'm using 1password 3.7.2 and on Mac OS X, I'm using version 3.8.22 (build 32010).

It seems to me that in order to upgrade everything, I would need to
    1. Upgrade my Macs to at least 10.10 (10.11 is available)
    2. Upgrade 1Password for Mac (Purchase an upgrade)
    3. Upgrade 1Password for iOS (rather, uninstall 3.x and install 6.x)
    4. Do whatever migration is necessary

    Is there some better option?

    Thanks
    -Tim

  • Hi @nwalsh,

I'm very sorry for the trouble, but we can no longer release updates for 1Password 3 for iOS, so this is not something we'll be able to fix. To run 1Password on iOS 9 you'll need 1Password 6 for iOS.

1Password 3 for iOS was retired nearly 3 years ago.

You can find upgrade instructions here:
    https://support.1password.com/upgrade-ios/
(if you have all of your data synced these upgrade steps may not be necessary, but make sure you have all of your data in v6 before uninstalling v3)

I would always recommend backing up your 1Password data before making any changes:
    iOS v3: https://support.1password.com/legacy-ios-backup-restore/
    iOS v5/6: https://support.1password.com/ios-itunes-backups/

Tim ( @timh42 ) -- both 1Password 6 for iOS and 1Password 3 for Mac can sync via Dropbox. I would of course recommend upgrading for best compatibility, but you may be able to hold out a short while longer.

Ben (@bwoodruff), Thanks for the info. I've upgraded on my iPhone and seem to be functional again. I can defer the remaining upgrades a little longer :-)

  • You're very welcome Tim! Glad to hear that'll work for now. :)
