would like to have more then a simple 4 digit pin to log back into 1Password app. Can this be an option for folks who want more. Yes one mis and you are denied access but i still fail to understand 4 as being secure.

thanks, fred

  • Hi @frederick_justsoap,

Thanks for taking the time to write in.

but i still fail to understand 4 as being secure.

I think you've answered your own question:

Yes one mis and you are denied access

An attacker only gets one chance out of 10,000 possible PINs. After a single incorrect entry the Master Password is erased from the iOS keychain and it is impossible to unlock the app without entering the Master Password (there is no second shot at the PIN).

The PIN option is a convenience feature, and is optional. If you require the highest level of security it can be disabled, which will force entry of the Master Password to unlock the app.

That said, I'd be happy to pass the suggestion along to our development team for their consideration.

    Thanks!

    Ben

thanks Ben, i did not answer my question as i asked if you can offer 8 instead of 4. I can not fix this issue. Your response is the fallacy of the missing middle. I do not "require the highest level of security" but rather want more then 4 numbers. We can be agreed that what ever the chances are to guess 4 they are even less for 8. I am looking for something in the middle of 4 and my master password. I do not see why having an option for up to 8 is hard to program into the app settings.

that is my request, options to be controlled by the user.

    thanks, fred

  • Thanks, Fred. As I mentioned I'll be happy to pass the suggestion along. :)

I'd also like to be able to use more than 4 digits. Someone with frequent access to the device, who is also often present when I enter the pin, could probably pretty easily find the pin after a few tries just from watching where my fingers tapped the screen.

I'd also be happy with alternative solutions like scrambling the digit positions on the pin entry screen each time, or allowing a short password instead of the pin with a full keyboard instead of digits, for example.

  • Thanks for the vote, @brki. :)
