I have done the recent updates of IOS to 9.0.1 and 1Password to 6.0.1, and find the app crashes on startup. Is this a known problem, and is there an existing fix?

1Password Version: 6.0.1
Extension Version: Not Provided
OS Version: IOS 9.0.1
Sync Type: Dropbox

  • Hi @spridget,

Thanks for taking the time to write in. I can't say I recall hearing of this problem, nor have I experienced it myself on my own devices. Could you please try updating to iOS 9.0.2 and see if that helps?

    Thanks.

    Ben

I'm having the same problem. Sometimes it takes a very long time for the Touch ID prompt to come up (and a very long time to unlock after entering) and then finally lets me in, while other times it just crashes before the Touch ID prompt appears. Even weirder, sometimes I get an all-white screen with text and an input:

    Enter iPhone passcode for "1Password"
    Unlock 1Password

It works fine on my iPad, but not on iPhone 6S Plus. Both are on 9.0.2.

On a side note, registering for this forum didn't work very well with the 1Password iOS extension. It entered my email address in the username field, and didn't fill out the "confirm password" field. You would think you'd at least make sure 1Password played nice with your own forum.

I upgraded IOS to 9.0.2 and the first launch of 1Password crashed. But several subsequent launches have had no problem. So, for now, the problem appears solved. Thanks for the prompt help!

@Werd: A fair point...but we did't write the forum software. Definitely room for improvement.

But several subsequent launches have had no problem.

@spridget: Thanks for the update! I'm glad to hear it's working for you now, but we're here if you need us! :)

Any idea what that white screen I saw was?

@Werd: Unfortunately without seeing it it's hard to say. Is this a static screen, and did you happen to take a screenshot? I may be alone in this, but I always take one when I see something strange ("..or it never happened!").

For example, what is up with that status bar..?

    I did take a screenshot...

@Werd: Wow. Thanks for sharing that! I don't even know where to begin...

First, 1Password won't ask you for your iPhone passcode.

Second, why is the keyboard inverted? :dizzy:

Third, this is an iOS prompt (referring to the app by name: "1Password").

Finally, the 1Password unlock screen has a Go button, not Cancel, so it isn't that either:

So this appears to be a Touch ID glitch. After all, when using Touch ID, you'll see a prompt like this:

where iOS states the name of the app which is requesting Touch ID input...except in your case iOS seems to have forgotten where to find Touch ID(?) so it is falling back to the device passcode. This should never, ever happen.

If you continue having this issue, it may be necessary to contact Apple, but there are a few things you can try on your own to reset it. You may be able to simply restart the device or re-set Touch ID (turn it off and then back on) to get it working, but there are a few other tips that you can try to get it working. Just follow these steps:

    1. Launch Settings on your iOS device
    2. Tap on Touch ID & Passcode
    3. Enter your Passcode or Password
    4. Toggle Touch ID to OFF
    5. Press the Home button to return to the Home screen
    6. Shut down and restart your device
    7. Enter your Passcode or Password at the Lock screen
    8. Launch Settings on your iOS device
    9. Tap on Touch ID & Passcode
    10. Enter your Passcode or Password
    11. Toggle Touch ID to ON

Please let me know how it turns out. I look forward to hearing back from you! :)

It hasn't happened in a while, so maybe the recent point releases fixed it. It made me nervous with the news that XcodeGhost could phish for credentials, though. Also, it still seems to take longer than expected for the Touch ID prompt to come up.

    Hi @brenty

I am facing a similar issue on ios 9.0.2 and 1Pass ver 6.0.1. I recently updated both on my iPhone 5s and now I am unable to access the app. :(
The app doesn't launch for me. When you try to launch the app, it tries to open it but it crashes and goes back to the homescreen. When you see the multitasking apps open in the background, I can see the home screen of my 1Password but if I try to open it from there, it crashes again. Please help! I need to access my bank accounts and I don't even have it synced to my iCloud as backup!

@alirazais: I'm sorry to hear that! Have you tried restarting your iPhone? Do you have a backup of your vault on another device?

I am using an iPad2, running ios 9.0.2 w/1Password 6.0.1. As soon as I try to launch 1Pass, it crashes. Have tried restarting. No joy. Have tried closing all apps and restarting. No joy.

@brenty Yes, I did try restarting but no luck. I have an iPad but I realized after the issue that my 1Password wasn't linked to my iCloud for backup.

  • Hi @adavidow,

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble. Have you made a backup of your 1Password data ( https://support.1password.com/ios-itunes-backups/ ) or synced it anywhere ( https://support.1password.com/guides/ios/syncing.html )?

    Please let us know.

    @alirazais

    Do you have a backup of your 1Password data? ( https://support.1password.com/ios-itunes-backups/ )
If so I'd recommend uninstalling and reinstalling 1Password. Note that uninstalling the app removes all of the data within it, so I would only recommend doing this if you have a recent backup.

    Thanks.

@bwoodruff Unfortunately I did not back up 1Password. I thought making a backup of the iPhone would've been enough. If i restore a phone backup would that be of any help?

  • It may. I'd highly recommend making a new backup first, in case you'd like to go back to the way things currently are.

    Thanks.

    Hi Ben,

Yes, my 1Password data is on Dropbox, and is regularly access from other devices. It is just the app on my iPad2 that is not functioning--the data are safe (or, are not endangered by this particular bugginess).

  • Perfect. In that case our next step here would be to try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

    Thanks.

I removed 1Password. Turned the iPad 2 off, then back on and reinstalled 1Password. Chose to sync with Dropbox. It's been about an hour. Normal? Likely positive outcome?

  • @adavidow,

    No items have appeared?

If so I'd like to see a diagnostic report from your iPad 2. You can find instructions here:

    https://support.1password.com/diagnostics/ios.html

Attach the Diagnostics Report to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can track down the report and ensure that it is dealt with quickly. :)

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks very much!

So, far, checking back in with the iPad 2, it is politely syncing with Dropbox. Still. "One moment please." Will follow instructions, above.

Er, this is awkward, but I can't seem to get to the "settings" tab inside my new 1Password on the iPad 2, since I can't get past the "Welcome to 1Password" -> Create new vault/sync existing vault -> "one moment please" ....

There does not appear to be a relevant setting in the iPad's settings panel, itself.

  • Hi @adavidow,

I'm sorry to hear this is still causing you problems. Could you please tell me: do you have the Dropbox app on your iPad, or are you entering your Dropbox credentials into 1Password? If you have the Dropbox app on your iPad have you opened it recently?

    Thanks.

    Ben

That was it--in removing 1Password, I apparently also snagged Dropbox. Everything seems to be copacetic now. Many thanks.

  • Great! Thanks for the update @adavidow. If there is anything else we can do, please don't hesitate to contact us.
